As an avid winemaker, Merlot is always looking for new ingredients with which to flavour his wine. He is constantly hitting up new stalls at the crossroads hoping to find the most exotic fruit. Sometimes he will purchase something he has never seen before and use it without even tasting it first. Unfortunately, this has lead to many unsuccessful brews. To his credit, he keeps track of every recipe and tries his best to make each one work.

His most successful wines have become clan favourites and he takes it upon himself to keep them in stock. The potash peach wine he makes is so popular he has started to get requests from outside the clan for it. Even Endewyn, who usually does not drink, enjoys a glass or two at special occasions.

Merlot is currently training Bloodwine in the art of winemaking. He has assigned her the duty of ingredient quality control as much of the fruit he uses is too small for him to inspect properly. Together they are barely able to meet the demands of the clan.

He will sometimes give his excess (non-alcoholic) fruit juices to thirsty hatchings.
