Hailing from Wind, the young Spiral had sent off across Scorneth to explore the world’s archives of knowledge, and her learning had brought her to Hewn City. She’d chanced upon Rune’s squad while they were out on a hunting trip, and they took her back to the Den to let her spend the night. (She had wanted to stay in the City, but the soldiers insisted that was too dangerous; she could go in the morning, accompanied of course.)

When morning came, the promised outing was done, and Varel realized just how much meat there was to Hewn City, and the Den itself. She asked permission to stay and study it, and when the majority of the then somewhat small Den agreed, she moved in and soon set up a archive/study.libary to live in.

Varel acts as the Den’s archivist, though she prefers to be called a librarian. She can find any book or scroll by just title or name, and spends hours reading and arranging the shelves. When not reading, she’s writing, either her observations of Hewn City or observations of the Den. Varel is also a pseudo record keeper of nest hatches, deaths, exaltations, and newcomers.

Varel can be a little excited, especially about her work. She’ll happily show off the archives to anyone who even seems half interested, all the while talking their ear off. She’s also highly curious, and when something new arrives, she’s one of the first to go investigate. This can sometimes lead to trouble, and she’s had to bailed out by other dragons on account of her curiosity-fueled rashness on a few occasions.
