Liberate stood in the blizzard, looking upon where he knew Iofiel and Metatron were. An hour earlier he had been known as Agla, but now he was forever cursed with the name Liberate. It was a mark that would bring him back to this night every time it was spoken. The name would strike him with guilt and shame. It would eat away at every part of him that still felt a spark of life until he was nothing more than an empty shell. It would destroy him, so he would never speak it. If only a few new about this name, then perhaps he could keep part of himself alive.

He should have known better. That was not the way the world worked.

It had been a five days since he set the captives free. Five days since he spared the lives of those from his home and betrayed the clan that had treated him well. It did not matter how well they had treated him, though, for they would never have felt like family. Although two of them had felt like friends, and it was those two that had been struck with the most pain. Every night, from now until death, he would hear Iofiel's words. You, Alga, you are now dead. Never forget those you have betrayed. He never would, and he would also never forget how easy it had been. It was as if a switch had been flicked. When he began freeing the captives part of him had relished in the betrayal.

It was on that fifth day where his time of solitude ended. He had wandered, not caring in which direction he was going when he ran into a blood red skydancer, the gems on the other dragon seeming to glow even with a lack of bright sunlight and eyes that matched fire.

The skydancer looked upon the sky blue imperial. There was something sad about the larger dragon, but that was not what kept his eyes locked on the dragon. There was a darkness hidden deep in the imperial, a darkness that had manifested quite recently. This was who he was looking for. "Speak your name. Mine is Jager."

Liberate bowed his head. "I do not have a name."

The gems on Jager's body glowed brighter. "You lie, Liberate. I know all you have done and that you would do it again if given the chance. You will come with me quietly, or I will take you by force." He had met a young shadow dragon that told him what had gone down that night. After a visit to the nearby clan he learned that the young dragon had spoken the truth. Jager had already completed the task he needed, but if he saw Liberate on his travels back to the prison gate then he would take the imperial in.

Liberate closed his eyes upon hearing his name. It would spread like the plague and all of the Southern Icefield would know what he had done. It would also spread to the Tangled Woods, but there he would be spoken as a hero, at least by most. "You give me no choice. I will come quietly." He could feel a powerful magic coming from the gems that lined Jager's body, a magic he had never experienced before.

"A wise decision. I will not bind you, because if we move fast enough we should make it before dark, but if you run, know that you will not make it far, and if you try to fight me I will not hesitate to kill you." Jager's eyes burned with a fiery passion that would make the Fire Flight proud, even thought his loyalties now lay elsewhere.

Liberate gave a small nod. "I understand." He followed Jager as the skydancer began walking, surprised at how quick of a pace the other dragon had. The two of them walked in silence as the hours ticked by. The terrain became harsh as they moved deep into The Fortress of Ends.

"Did you come to find me specifically?"

Jager did not turn to look at Liberate, keeping his eyes on the path he was taking. "No. I was suppose to bring back another dragon."

That caused more questions than answers. "Where is the other dragon?"

"Dead. He tried to run and did not see the ground open up in front of him." Jager did not tell Liberate that the reason that a crack had opened up in the earth was because he had willed it. It was meant to stop the running dragon, not kill him, but he was not bothered by what had happened. Death might have ended up being the lesser of the two evils that the dragon would have experienced.

"I see." The two of them stayed silent the rest of the way. The cold grew worse and the ground felt like a thousand tiny claws digging into his feet, but Jager did not seem bothered by it. Suddenly, Liberate felt them approach a powerful magic. He wanted to turn and run, get far away from the maliciousness of it, but he had no choice but to continue following the skydancer.

Liberate closed his eyes as he felt the magic surround them, and then suddenly the angry feeling was gone. Opening his eyes he saw that they were surrounded by green, but how was that possible? Looking behind him, he saw the harsh land of ice that they had just been in. How had he not seen this green paradise earlier?

"Come and I will explain." Jager led them farther into the field of green, trees of different variety scattered around randomly. It was not long before they came upon a jade mirror and a blue and green fae. The red skydancer nodded towards the fae. "Whisp's magic has made this place what it is, and also protects it from unwanted visitors. She and Rowan are the guards to the place you are going." Jager approached an area near a large rock. Nothing could be seen, but it was apparent to all that something was there. "Take one last look around, Liberate, for this may be the last beautiful sight you will ever see, and then go." He gestured to the spot next to the rock.

Liberate felt fear creeping into him. Where would that invisible portal take him? He would find out soon enough, so taking Jager's advice he looked around at the lush area around him. The area was serene and beautiful, and he hoped to see it again someday. With a nod to the other three dragons he stepped into the portal and disappeared from sight, and as he did the color drained from his scales.
