Imperials are known for being some of the most regal dragons, but MadameRed carries a particular elegance about her. A true lady, she embodies grace and good manners, and considers it just as important to extend her utmost courtesy to anyone, regard of rank or importance. She is always polite, and carries herself with a dignified mien that makes others around her want to sit up a little straighter and make sure they're behaving. She's also known amongst the clan for always dressing well, and many of the other dragons there look to her for advice on fashion and choosing apparel.

Although Plague dragons tend not to be what people think of as refined or proper, MadameRed
proves them all wrong. She often uses herself as an example, saying that you shouldn't look down on any dragon for superficial reasons, like element, since you don't know what they're really like. She doesn't seem to use much of her elemental magic, although when she does is in small and useful ways. She always knows when food has spoiled and is dangerous to eat, advising that it be thrown out or put onto the compost heap to help the gardens grow. She also knows who has picked up a cold or some or other illness before they even begin to show symptoms, so that they can make sure not to handle any of the lair's supplies or go into the hatchery, and risk making someone else sick. MadameRed always seems to be carrying a delicate silk handkerchief, to be politely offered to any dragon about to burst into a cough or a sneeze.

MadameRed rarely speaks of her old clan, talking vaguely about their being large and somewhat important when she does. Although she downplays it, since a lady would never be so crass as to brag, they were rich and powerful, nobility among the dragons of the Scarred Wasteland. She was taught to be well-mannered and graceful, ate fine meals, and dressed in expensive silks, but she found herself discontented. Although she was taught to show respect and deference to those who were wealthy and important, she saw those same dragons speak down to workers and servants, treating them like dirt. It seemed like a double-standard to her. Why should they demand to be treated highly when they couldn't extend even half that amount of courtesy to others? They told her not to be bothered, that it was just the way things were, but she was still dissatisfied. She left, deciding to seek another clan who would treat everyone well and fairly.

After some traveling, MadameRed came to the Windswept Plateau. Although it was very different from her old home, she found herself growing fond of it. When she happened upon a little clan, still growing, she was touched to see that they offered her the hospitality of their lair before they even knew who she was. Back home, her old clan had always wanted to know the name, clan, and rank of any dragon who visited, and those found lacking generally received a chilly reception and were shortly after ushered out the door. But this one, and the tundra who led it, happily made space for her, without caring who she was as long as she seemed peaceful. They acted as though it didn't matter to them whether she was important or not, and she could see that they would have been just as kind even if she had been a destitute wanderer.

The longer she stayed, the more enchanted she grew with the new clan. Every dragon there did their part, pitching in to help the others somehow, but there was no strict hierarchy, and no dragon looked down on another for doing a simpler or dirtier job. Their leader, Nocti, and her mate Yuu didn't give themselves airs. In fact, they treated every member of the clan as though they were just as important as themselves. It warmed her heart to see Yuu solemnly laboring at the forge to create even something as simple as a new cooking pot for the kitchen, or Nocti bending her ear to listen to the adolescent woes of the clan's little ones, neither dismissing their clanmate's needs or saying that they were too important to handle such minor details. When Nocti responded to her formal petition to join the clan by happily jumping up to give her a hug and welcome her, she knew she had chosen well.

MadameRed takes it upon herself to teach the hatchlings of the lair manners and deportment. She comes down to the hatchery every day for an hour and so, and teaches the littlest hatchlings to say please and to share, and the older ones the more complicated social graces. She has just the right air of kindness mixed with authority for them to listen attentively, and learn well. She gets along very well with Bell, who appreciates her help, since much as he loves his charges their care is a lot of work for a single dragon. He's certainly happy to admit that a “Now, we don't raise our voices inside like that, do we?” does wonders to settle them down when they start getting rowdy.

As one of the most sophisticated members of the lair, MadameRed also helps to organize anything fancy that needs to follow a special protocol. Although they are a humble clan, rarely hosting important dragons, they still welcome any who do arrive, whether they are ambassadors, traveling clan leaders, or wealthy traders. MadameRed always makes sure that everything goes off without a hitch, making sure their rooms are well-prepared, and that a special meal is served to show their regard. She helps organize the elemental festival celebrations too, which often come with special traditions from the elemental region where they originate. MadameRed remembers them all, and takes care to see them carried out, so that any dragon of that element either from the clan or just visiting can see the care they take to honor their element. She takes great pride in her clan, and wants to make sure that others can see just why she holds it in such high regard.

MadameRed's mate is DarkSea, who serves the clan as a teacher and the keeper of a small library which he has compiled. Like her, he sets a great deal of stock by proper manners and deportment, and the two of them are admired for being such a refined and elegant pair. He won her favor by courting her in the most proper manner, which although it was considered old fashioned, she still approved of. She was delighted to entertain the interest of someone who cared enough to pay court to her in the slow and traditional manner, writing poetry praising her wit and beauty, sending gifts of flowers that held hidden messages in the types and arrangements, and waiting until after the proper amount of meetings to ask her permission to give her a kiss or hold her paw. It was an old dance, one that she knew every step of, and one that she followed in her own stately way. When he asked if she would do him the honor becoming his mate in the traditional fashion with a red rose, as red as her crimson scales, the symbol of true love and devotion, she gladly accepted. The two of them have been mates for some time, and couldn't imagine being apart, a lady and her gentleman.

A true lady is polite to everyone she meets, from a king down to a servant. After all, poor manners mean a poor spirit.
