Biography

NYLA
The Lookout
Quick-thinker | Sassy | ? | ?

(Small for a Guardian lore-wise)
Nyla sat in nervous anticipation outside a large tent occasionally glancing at the large airship parked nearby. Days ago when this had just been an ad on a cork board she'd been nearly eager to take this chance. An ad calling for an airship crew, one unlike anything else before and the only requirement? A love of the sky, now that was something she had in spades.

She used to be found up in the branches of the highest trees or in the biggest meadows as a hatchling just watching the clouds pass by overhead. While the drive to explore had been inherited by her brother she was far from settled either. She was content to stay in the clan but that was only so long as she could see the sky and the yearning to not just watch but to be up there with them grew by the day. Eventually she too left their clan for something bigger. The only problem was she had had no idea what that was until she found that ad.

It had been mostly impulse that she had grabbed the ad and it was only when she was in her room that panic set in, she didn't know a thing about airships! A love for the sky could not be the only thing that she would need. She eventually calmed down enough to decide that the worse that would happen was she would be stuck at the lowest position...if she got the job.

Now here she was and her nerves were only growing with every dragon that went into the tent and came out, only a fraction of the number going to the airship. The airship was indeed the oddest one in the whole docking field. Compared to the patchwork cloth ones scattered around this one had an abnormal amount of metal on it and seemed far more enclosed. In fact it looked like it couldn't fly at all. But it must be able to or there would be no need to call for a crew. She was pulled from her observation when a voice called out for the next dragon to come in.

Stepping into the tent she found it far more noisy then expected, a handful of dragons were going through paperwork and were shouting back and forth between each other about various things she didn't catch. She found the leader in the back, a male Spiral, at least he seemed like since he was shouting the most and at all of them at once. The sole silent dragon was the female Fae that was perched on the back of his chair, staring at her intensely. Instead of squirming like she wanted to she made herself stand still as the attention of the leader suddenly swung back to her.

He wasted no time in barking at her too, "Well, what do you want?"

"I'm here to apply for a job?" the question unintentionally seeped into her voice.

This didn't escape his notice but there was less scorn then she expected in his answer, "Well you and everyone else that's been in here today but what job are you even applying for?"

She really should have thought of that, she didn't even know the first job on a airship beyond the captain's. She really should have just asked for the lowest job and hope she'd get it but what passes through her mouth is another question entirely, "Well what jobs are there?"

Nyla's eyes widened in shock at her own impudence while the Spiral's narrowed, one of the dragons behind her cackled. He grabbed one of the papers on his desk and slammed it right in front of her, facing up so she could see the long list on it, a handful of checkmarks next to a few of them but mostly blank.

"This is the list of the positions we need filled. You think you have what it takes to fill any of them?" he replied challengingly.

Examining the list she didn't recognize most of the words on it and ones she did she couldn't do or were already taken. It seemed to be in some kind of order with the 'captain' and 'first mate' at the top, looking at the bottom of the list at 'cabinderg' she almost said that but after her own audacity it felt wrong to take the easy way out.

Before she could decide what to say the Fae finally spoke, her voice smooth and monotonous, "She has it. The right kind."

"She does? That doesn't mean I'm just gonna give her job she can't do." The Spiral turned to the other.

"Everyone has to start somewhere." Is the flat answer.

"Well then if you've got all the answers where do you think I should put her?" Honest annoyance was in his tone.

"Lookout." One word yet the expression immediately dropped off his face as he turned to scan her intensely as the Fae had at the start.

"Huh...what do you know, you might be right. Well, how would you like to be the Lookout?"

This was the last thing Nyla expected but Spiral was serious. How did it end up like this, it seemed as if the Spiral was trying to pitch a job at her instead of her asking him for one.

"What would be expected of me as a Lookout?" Thank the Eleven for some part of her knowing what to say so she doesn't sound like an idiot.

"To lookout for stuff of course! We can't see everything at the helm so someone has to keep an eye out."

That sounded like an easy job but was it? "Would I be able to see the clouds?"

"Most of the time that's probably all you'll see."

"I'll take it!" She blinked at the end of the rapid fire conversation, one that ended with her having a job.

The Spiral grinned broadly and the Fae's frills flicked pleased while the dragons behind her cheered. "Well then I Captain Gospel welcome you to the crew of the Enterprise.........what was your name again?"
