It was a cold, dark night in dragonville; perfect for the holiday of Halloween. It would be her first Halloween out, as usually just went to some fundraiser function with her family held at a school. Deciding to go as a simple witch, with a moonlit ghost cemetery painted on her wings, Megara grabbed her trick-or-treat bag and set out to meet with friends. What she didn't know was that they had decided to take her to a haunted maze.
"Must we?" she asked, hesitantly.
They had reached the mountain maze. From what they heard, it was a long maze that took you through various landscapes. It would eventually lead you to the entrance of a cave, in which you would continue your journey. Some hints were given as to what was on ahead in the mountains; none was given about what was in the cave. It was disconcerting. Yet her friends answer was a resounding "Yes!"
So off they went. At first it was simple; cobwebs, lit pumpkins, a few animals scurrying about and the occasional dragon jumping out to give you a good jump scare. Gradually, it got scarier; zombie chasing, little shocks, voices where there was no one around, more jump scares. If Meg was being honest, though it was a fright, it was fun. She was laughing and having a great time with her friends. She was on a warm adrenaline high when they reached the entrance of the cave, the feeling immediately turning cold; goosebumps running along her scales as she gazed upon it. Black curtains were pinned to the side, cobwebs running along the fabric. It was pitch dark, save for the two lit torches above a boulder with a parch of paper on top. The group of friends walked over and without another word, Meg leaned over slightly to read the paper.
It read:
A legend of old
lives in this cave;
who, or what, is the question at play.
All that is known is its frightening demeanor;
it fills the air with a dark and rank filter.

It thrives in this darkness and it plays with its prey
snatching you away in a dangerously quick way.
So if you wish to survive, please take the torch,
lest you become its next course.

It was an eerie message, no doubt about that. It made Meg feel the need to end the night short, head home and snuggle in a blanket, drinking a warm drink. Her friends however wanted to continue pushing on and, against her better judgment, she went along with. One of them grabbed the torch, and off they went, discussing the eerie parchment. A couple of them thought it not real, that it must be a hoax; to scare folks away from getting to the treasure. Or, in this case, candy.

Still, Meg kept close. She didn't like that the further they went in, the quieter, the colder, the smaller it got. Her heart was pounding achingly fast against her chest, making it somewhat difficult to breathe. She was on the verge of convincing her friends to turn back and leave when there was a sudden scream. Meg and her friends jumped at the sound and instinctively moved closer to each other. In front of them, they saw shadows moving towards them, turning into physical shapes of dragons as they drew closer. There expressions frightened and curses coming out of their mouths, they ran past Meg's group telling them to run for it. Before they could react, there torch suddenly went out, leaving it pitch dark. A sinister laugh sounded from where the running dragons came from, and it was obvious it was drawing near. Shaking, the group could only keep together as the inched in, what they hoped, was backwards.
"Where do you think you're going" a spooky voice asked.[/size
Another torch on the cave wall lit; illuminating the space, revealing a terrifying creature. It was big with huge rounded yellow eyes, sharp teeth pulled in a smile and a distorted body. Her friends screamed and ran, leaving Meg frozen in fear. Frozen, that is, until it took a small step towards her, causing her to scream out "TRICK-OR-TREAT!!!!"
