B I O G R A P H Y

Deep within the carved tunnels of a frozen lair, the sound of shifting cloth and the smell of incense denote the presence of the clan’s great sage. Hideyo, an oracle older than the clan itself, can often be found in the darkest corners of a sprawling underground lair. Most members of the clan understand that if his guidance is truly paramount, they will have no trouble finding the colossal form of the ancient imperial.

While Hideyo can be elusive and esoteric at the best of times, he is a calming and grounding presence when he can be sought out. Many dragons seek him out when they feel adrift or have concerns they need to offload about the future. While he may not always expend the energy to try and peer into the future on a whim, Hideyo will never let a dragon leave his presence without at least some of their questions answered. He remains a deeply paternal presence in the lair, guided by powers seemingly beyond himself, but ultimately remaining close with the clan.

There has never been a time in living clan memory that Hideyo has needed to step onto the battlefield. But when other dragons believe they have complete privacy, there are whispers of a titan terrorizing battlefields across the Shifting Expanse. Some believe the old imperial could level legions on his own if he so desired, others would still believe he’s a sweet old man. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, many members of the clan will likely never see Hideyo lift a claw against an enemy. Their peace with surrounding clans is hard fought and hard won, and from somewhere beneath the ice, Hideyo is happy to nudge his clanmates in the correct direction.

R E L A T I O N S H I P S

Vexani: If any dragon is likely to be able to track Hideyo down at the drop of a hat, it would be his close apprentice, Vexani. More nervous than her elder counterpart, the young oracle can often be found in his shadow. While they didn’t join the clan together, they were bound to each other from the moment they met. Hideyo truly sees Vexani as a daughter and protege and frequently makes that clear through his actions. He’s spent most of his time since acquiring his apprentice, imparting as much of his wisdom on her as possible.

Morpheus: Where Hideyo deals in clairvoyance and advice, Morpheus deals with all things life and physicality. Their domains tend to overlap frequently, and while Morpheus took her time warming up to the old man, she’s taken to him quite a bit in recent years. Wind raised and Plague trained, Morpheus has spent a good deal of her life migrating her way across Sornieth. She may yet pick up and move, taking her talents in healing elsewhere, but Hideyo has proved to be a (somewhat baffling) anchor to the healer’s fits of annoyance or overwhelm. Of course, one calming presence may keep her in place longer than she originally expected, but isn’t likely to keep a nomad rooted forever.

Ursa: Caught under the same paternal umbrella as Vexani, Hideyo has begun to ease Ursa into the idea that his hopes for a brighter future may not be entirely unattainable. Given Ursa’s tendency to get caught up with Vexani, it isn’t uncommon for the trio to end up in conversation together. In such cases, it is advised that any un-interested dragons vacate the surrounding tunnels for the next day or so to avoid being roped into the trio’s latest philosophical quandary. Ursa is also one of the dragons that goes out of his way to check in on Hideyo, making sure the old dragon has eaten and taken at least a short walk outside when they run into each other.
