Long time ago the world was covered in snow.
The Icewarden's silent snowfields spread through Sornieth, touching even the deepest reaches of the Tidelord's great ocean.
That was where Alyssa was born. She was an important figure, an heir of a mighty clan of guardians who had dedicated their lives to protecting the Temple of the Tidelord, a sacred castle that contained countless prophecies told by great seers of the age.
Ever since she was young Alyssa knew that her destiny was to become a priestess of the temple. She wanted to spend her days in her Deity's service, listening to the words of a god rising from the depths of the ocean and carving them to the walls of the temple where they would be stored forever for the generations to come.

The clan, however, had other plans for her. As a princess, they told her, her duty was to be mated to a leader of another clan and work as an ambassador between their flights. She would serve the Tidelord on her own, in a land far away from home.
She yelled and objected. Her place was here, in the icy Temple with the rest of her brothers and sisters. She refused to go and finally the Elders of the clan were forced to comply. She would have a chance to dive to the bed of prophecies and complete her initiation to become a priest.

She overtook the challenge eagerly. The spells and beasts lurking in the water meant nothing. She was going to fulfill her destiny and nothing could stop her.

She didn't find a prophecy. The waters were dark and empty and the few bubbles she found slid through her claws like and vanished into thin air. After many desperate attempts she was forced to go back empty-handed.

It was raining on the day she left her home. Her mate was going to be a famous mage from the Starfall Isles. She was very lucky, her parents told her. She was going to live in a fancy lair near the Observatory of the Arcanist himself. Alyssa didn't care. She hated the Arcanist. She hated the Starfall Isles, she hated her parents and she hated herself for failing at the most important moment of her life.

As she stepped out of the Temple for the final time, she saw something from the corner of her eye.
In the pool of water in the ground there was a reflection of the Temple. Exept... it wasn't the temple Alyssa knew. There was fire and lightning and the pillars of the mighty castle were crumbling. The ground below was melting away and soom there was nothing left.

Alyssa ran back inside and told the Elders what she had seen. They scoffed at her and ordered her to stop interrupting them. Worried and depressed, she left the clan.

The Starfall Isles were even more horrible than she had imagined. There was no snow anywhere and the only place with water was a small pond used to wash dirty clothes. Her mate wasn't interested of anything else than his studies and once he had gotten enough information about the water flight's magic from Alyssa, he quickly lost interest in her. Alyssa was fine with it. She took long walks alone in the nature and pretended she was home.

One day it happened. She was walking at the shore when she heard a strange noise coming underneath the water's surfcase. There was a glowing pillar of light that rose from the depths. Curious, Alyssa flew closer. She could see the little sparks dancing in the air, just like snowflakes.
She touched the light and everything went white.

She was waken by the feeling of somebody touching her. There was an imperial at his side, looking at her with a worried expression on his face. His name was Rumble and he was a healer, he told her. He had found her laying unconcious at the shore. If she needed food, medicine or a place to rest, she could follow him to his lair. His clan was very friendly and welcoming.

Alyssa frowned. The imperial spoke in a strange, almost incomprehencible way. The scenery was also weird. She spread her wings and flew at the direction she had came from just a few moments ago. She remembered a field of flowers but now she saw a full-grown forest with trees many times higher than she was.

Panicking, she flew to the peak where her new home was... Had been. She looked at the ruins in disbelief. She regognized the crumbled remains of the library and the courtyard taken over by weeds. Rumble hurried at her side, looking puzzled.

She told him she needed to go. He told her she was his patient and he wasn't going to let her go alone.
They travelled for many days until they arrived to her home. Her fears were confirmed as she laid her eyes upon the muddy cove. There was no temple. No ice or snow, just petrified lava and crooked trees on the shores of the once beautiful lagoon.
Alyssa turned away. Her hopes and dreams crushed, she followed Rumble back to his lair.
