Biography
GOLD
Gold always felt a little out of place. It wasn’t that she didn’t like the fire, it was that she liked it for the wrong reasons. The other Hatchlings would watch in awe of what the fire could do, but Gold would watch the flames themselves. She would watch them dance and twirl. She would watch the light that played on the walls.
Often people told her that she was like her mother. Her mother had danced with the fire, playing among the flames . Nobody was sure where exactally she was from, nobody had ever cared, but everybody knew where she had gone.
One night, when the moon was dark, Gold‘s mother had taken a jar of treasure and left for the Sunbeam Runes.
It was no suprise to the clan when one night Gold was suddenly gone, along with a jar of treasure.
Gold had set out to find her mother, to ask her why she left, and to unravel the mystery that had formed around her.
After a few days of searching in the Runes, Gold still didn’t know why her mother had left, but she knew why she had stayed. The atmosphere was warm, but not in the way the ashfall waste was. This was a kind warmth. Gold felt like she belonged here. She felt like she had come home.
It took about a week to find her mother. When Gold saw her, she was dancing among the light filtering through the trees. She said she had left to find her father. She said he hailed from the light flight.
Gold asked her if she had found him. She had not. Apparently he had fled to plague territory, and Alva was too frightened to follow.
It was a few moths later that Gold left. She was sad to leave, and took a little of the light with her. She had promised Alva though. She had promised to go find her Grandfather, deep in the territory of the plague flight.
Gold took a deep breath at the boundary into the wasteland. For a second, Gold paused, remembering how the fire danced at dusk, remembering how the light danced through the trees in the Runes.
Then, Gold stepped further. There was no going back now.
