StormWatcher| stay a while and listen
Primary Role
Historian Secondary Role Elder StormWatcher was born to one of the founding clans from the beginning of Dragonkind. As a wind dragon, he wandered for most of his early years within a newly forming world. He eventually settled into a fire flight clan, where he stayed and had many hatchlings with various mates. Suddenly, his hatchlings began to die while in or just out of the shell, with no apparent explanation. This grieved him deeply, and after it happened one too many times, he refused any more partners. After his personal tragedies, he bonded with his niece, Sevia, who became his ward. He is an old, kind uncle to her and has sworn to never separate no matter where they may stay. Sevia helped him climb out of his depression, and he lived as a guard for his clan for many more years. Time stretched on and cracks began to appear. As StormWatcher performed his duties, he watched as a famine struck his clan. He and others would hunt for days away from the lair only to find nothing. Alliances and long held friendships fell away as the dragons became more desperate and vicious. The nests laid barren for months. The last straw was a beast clan horde that took advantage of their weakness and drove them out of their lair, a bitter defeat. That day was the last time StormWatcher saw many of his friends. He escaped into the wilderness with his neice when all was lost. Once again it was Sevia who kept him sane as they wandered the Ashfall Wastes searching for a new home. Sevia asked if he would be willing to go to a new flight territory, but StormWatcher had grown to love the Wastes and wanted to stay. After a few weeks they came to the Scorched Forest, where they met a very friendly Fae who introduced herself immediately. "Hello. My name is Wyp, what clan are you from?" "We have no clan." the old Guardian said quietly. Wyp whistled sadly and said "I see. I am sorry." Sevia stepped forward, head bowed towards the tiny Fae. "My name is Sevia and this is my uncle StormWatcher. We are only passing through, we mean your clan no harm. May we hunt in your territory today? we won't stay long. " The Fae flittered around them, examining them. She clicked in disapproval "Oh no no, this won't do, you're both in terrible condition." Despite her monotone, Wyp was obviously distressed. StromWatcher flinched slightly as the Fae landed on his injured flank. He was surprised to feel the constant aching pain he had there for weeks dissipate within seconds. She then flew up and perched on his horn. "I don't think I can remove all the scarring, but you should feel a bit more comfortable." she said. She looked at Sevia. The Guardian realised the Fae was looking down at her countable ribs and sharp hips. "My clan's leader has come out to hunt today, he's not far from here. Perhaps he has caught something!" Wyp said, then took to the air again and gestured for them to follow. StormWatcher gave Sevia a look of amazement as they began to move. This Fae had only just met them yet she was already determined to help. He wondered what this clan leader was like. It didn't take long at all before they all saw the arched back of a red and orange Guardian. He was slightly larger than the old dragon and obviously in much better health. As they got closer he was relieved to see that there was food. "Landogar! We have visitors!" The Fae chirped as she flew far ahead of them to meet the leader and landed on the dragon's horn, just as she had with him. She kept chattering but the Fae was too far for him to hear. He could tell Sevia was very nervous, but somehow he wasn't. She stopped walking any closer. StormWatcher stopped with her. He gave her a reassuring look. Landogar came up to greet them. He had a few heavy sacks tied to his back. "Hello, my friend tells m you need help." He gave them a long look, his eyes becoming sadder as he did "I see what she was talking about. You can have some food." He presented a bag of freshly picked Potash Peaches. "I'll give you both a more substantial meal if you don't mind accompanying me and Wyp to our lair." "To your lair?!" Sevia exclaimed. "You are both very kind and the peaches are a welcome gift, but why lead us to your home?" The leader huffed, then said "Sorry, I should introduce myself. My name is Landogar, this is our new clan territory. Me and Wyp found each other and we've been building our own home. I hear you are in need of one." He looked at StormWatcher. "Wyp thinks you must be very old. We could use more experienced dragon folk to help guide us." Sevia still regarded him suspiciously, but she took the bag of food. Landogar nodded and said "I realise I must be being too presumptuous, I should say you can stay for a while until you are recovered. You are free to do as you wish, but I would hate to leave two dragons like you to keep fending for themselves. Every dragon needs a clan." StormWatcher evaluated the vibrant young Guardian with a silent gaze. The youth was brimming with vitality and resilience, so unlike his own state. A small flame of hope began to fill the old dragon's heart. He looked to Sevia. "So long as my niece is inclined, we would be honoured to see your clan." Sevia finally relaxed when she saw her uncle's calm and nodded her consent. Landogar grinned in delight, "Excellent! I can't wait for you to meet everyone. It will be an honour to have you there." Wyp took off and said "come, come!" as loud as her tiny voice could be. Over a few weeks they met everyone and recovered from wounds both physical and mental. Once they regained their strength, StormWatcher already felt at home. Sevia was happy to see him happy. After a few months, the young energy of the Roaring Blaze clan seemed to revitalise StormWatcher in ways he never expected. StormWatcher and Sevia decided to become permanent members. He is now the story teller and chronicle of the clan. If ever a dragon or hatchling wants words of wisdom or a tale from his long lifetime, he will give it gladly. He also advises Landogar on how to best run the clan. |
