TURKEY VULTURE: Guided by their acute sense of smell, Turkey Vulture dragons forage by detecting traces of ethyl mercaptan, a gaseous compound released during the early stages of flesh decay. Their bare, featherless heads and strongly acidic stomach secretions allow these dragons to consume carrion without suffering adverse effects from bacterial contamination. They also frequently sun bathe to help cook off any bacteria they may have picked up while foraging.

Although they are equipped with broad wings, Turkey Vulture dragons rely very little on power and energy to fuel flight. Their primary flight feathers, which feature highly asymmetrical blades, appear as 'fingers' with slots between them. This feature reduces turbulence during flight and allows Turkey Vulture dragons to effectively soar using warm air thermals. These dragons often spiral upwards in a circle around the edge of an air thermal before gliding a short distance to an adjacent thermal.
