It was on a cold winter night, when one of the worst storms the Frigid Floes had ever seen was passing through, that a little miracle was born. A dragon egg had been left in an otherwise abandoned nest next to a piece of ice that jutted out of one of the floes. There were no signs that the parents had stuck around. Most likely, they, and perhaps the other eggs if there had been any, had been blown away by the frosty gales that swept through the Floes that night. It was a storm that even many of the larger dragons feared they might not live through. A Guardian dragon from a nearby clan was one of the few dragons out that night. He was one of the royal guards, and he had been out searching for any lost or stranded dragons who had been trapped in the storm. After hours of searching, Rynzin was turning back to go home when his keen ears heard something amiss. A small squeak, barely audible in the sound of the howling wind. He could have ignored it, for it could have been nothing but an old branch blown over from the nearby tundra, but he followed it. A large dragon moving anywhere in such a wind would have struggled greatly, as he did, but he did not give up. The night seemed to drag on forever, but finally, the wind slowed and the first rays of dawn began to shine across the Southern Icefields. The dragons of the Arael clan that Rynzin hailed from woke the next morning to find their guardian and prince missing, and many feared he had not survived the storm and was buried under the feet of fresh snow. Then they heard the sound of clinking metal. Over the edge of their floe came the Guardian, and in his massive jaws was something so small that most thought it was a dead animal for the meat stores. Then it squeaked. It was the same squeak that Rynzin had heard the night before in the storm. The lone egg in the icy nest had hatched into a tiny Nocturne barely larger than her Guardian rescuer's claw. The hatchling was named Nasya, and the clan brought her into their ranks as one of their own. She was raised by the clan, but spent the majority of her time with the Guardian that rescued her, Rynzin, due to the fact that she had imprinted on him the night he rescued her. As she grew, their bond grew as well. He is her rescuer, her brother, her protector, and her idol. It quickly became rare to see Rynzin go anywhere without the little Nocturne clinging onto his leg, wing, or back. While she is very timid and shy, and very slow to trust new dragons she meets (even some of those in her own clan), she is always an open book for Rynzin, and she never fails to show him everyday how thankful she is to him for giving her a second chance. - Description by Silvereil |
