Orchid has a past she doesn't enjoy talking about. Having grown up in an average Shadow clan, she lived a rather standard life until she met who would quickly become her husband, a red and black Spiral named Icefyre. Though he seemed to be just another normal soul at first, Icefyre would gradually begin showing his true colors as a rude, inconsiderate, and above all, highly suspicious character who would lie to Orchid very often about even the simplest things. One of the first things he did after they got married was move him and Orchid one of the most remote parts of the Southern Icefield, a desolate wasteland bordering the Snowsquall Tundra where they were completely isolated.
Even in somewhere as remote as this, Icefyre would disappear from their home extremely often, most of the time without explanation. His behavior did not even change when his and Orchid's eggs hatched into two twin Spirals, one she named Tigertail and the other she named Spiderweb. She already knew with her Skydancer senses he was doing something malicious, but it would be months until Orchid finally snapped and made Icefyre spill the truth about his behavior—he had been doing deals with criminals all across Sornieth. And not just doing deals, no: he was outright stealing from them, and would only spend the treasure on things to benefit himself and never his own family. The latter sentiment was not something Icefyre actually said to Orchid. She just knew it to be true all along.
Their home had a rude awakening one day when some of the dragons Icefyre had been stealing from over and over tracked him down and showed up on his and Orchid's own doorstep. Their altercation quickly turned physical, and though Icefyre was trying his best to fight them off, Orchid had never learned to fight, and she had to protect her hatchlings. So, she acted as best as she could and tried to fly herself, Tigertail, and Spiderweb away, but one of the criminals spotted her and attacked her, too. It wasn't her they were interested in—it was her hatchlings. She channeled her strength and magic as best as she could to fight them off, but she simply was not able. Orchid surrendered, and the criminals ordered her to stay put as they finished incapacitating Icefyre. But why would she ever listen to such a thing?
Orchid knew she was risking her own and her hatchlings' life by attempting her next move, but she decided to truly put her powerful wings to good use and took to the sky. She flew farther and faster than she ever had in her entire life, and while she was still bruised and bleeding all over. In retrospect, sources the criminals' focus on Icefyre as the only reason they never saw her escaping, and she knew she wouldn't be going back for Icefyre, but had no idea where she was flying to, either. Hopefully somewhere safe, somewhere that could help her. Possibly because of a blessing from the Shadowbinder herself, that is exactly what Orchid found, as she spotted a group of six dragons in the Snowsquall Tundra, explained her situation, and begged them to help her.
The kindness these six dragons—Moth, Mica, Autumn, Maron, Moondancer, and Emerald—showed Orchid was greater than anything she had experienced in her entire life thus far. Autumn healed her and cleaned her wounds, and Emerald and Maron looked after her hatchlings while Orchid was collecting herself. She knew right away that she wanted to stay with this clan, and that is exactly what she did, quickly becoming the next member of the clan of Gelida and one of its seven founders. And to be able to defend herself in case the criminals who were after her hatchlings ever return, Orchid consulted Maron and Moondancer for training as a warrior. In the present day, her dedicated training has allowed her to be one of the most fearsome and strongest warriors the clan has ever seen, and is a popular source of teaching for the younger warriors, too.
Finally, Orchid, of course, raised Tigertail and Spiderweb in Gelida. Emerald, one particularly gifted with hatchlings, grew closer to Orchid during this time and acted as a second mother to them when Orchid was struggling. It wasn't long until they developed feelings for each other, and they held their informal, yet just as meaningful, marriage right when Spiderweb and Tigertail reached young adulthood. While Tigertail left for another clan to pursue his own dreams, Spiderweb stayed in Gelida with her mother. Spiderweb and Orchid are and always will be the most important dragons in Orchid's life; without them, and without Gelida as a whole, she wouldn't have achieved such a better life, and maybe wouldn't even have achieved the happiness she has now. At the end of the day, that's what Orchid is now—happy. And she couldn't ask for anything better.
