CLement

Clement was always the one to shine brighter than the others. How could one not, with fur that seemed to shine from all the light it reflected. Clement himself knew he wasn’t the best at hunting, fishing or bug catching because of this, but he was always the one to return with enough plants to sustain the clan’s tundras for days to come! Sometimes the gemlike tundra heard the whispers from his fellow clan members, praising him for his gentle personality but complaining about just how bright Clement shone. The sun in the sky seemed to do it’s best to make Clement’s fur sparkle, but over time the tundra only heard complaints about it. Apparently all he could really do was blind his fellow clan members. Clement began to take his clan member’s words personal and one night, under the moon’s gentle glow, he left.

Clement’s journey took quite some time, much longer than the tundra had hoped. He hoped to find a place where his shine would not blind others around him, but no matter where he went the sun seemed to send light directly his way. Even in the darkest part of the tangled woods Clement somehow shone, something that should not be possible.

A full year had passed, most of which was spend traveling. There had been a few instances where Clement had temporally stayed at a clan, but those were few and often times short. Clement began to hate the sun, constantly following him, constantly making him blind others. However, when Clemont entered the land of the stormcatcher he realized something: the land was eternally stuck under thick, gray clouds, which would occasionally light up as lightning flashed through the sky.

And for once, Clemont’s shine was not there because of the sun following him.

It didn’t take the tundra long to find a new, permanent home in this land of lightning. However, that didn’t mean that he wasn’t being compared to the sun anymore.

The hatchlings that were born in this clan had only seen storm clouds above them. Never had they seen the blue of the sky, nor had they ever seen the sun. The thunder and lightning were also enough to keep dragons flying less high than they would if the sky was clear. It was during one especially stormy day that Clemont overheard a hatchling asking their parents what the sun was.

“Well sweetie” the mother of the young dragon spoke. “The sun is a huge light that shines during the day. It’s located pretty far away from this world, in space.”. “What color is the sun?” The hatchling asked, to which the father replied. “Well, you could compare the sun to Clemont: fiery and sometimes blinding, yet needed to have…. Well… to have a day!”

Clemont froze as the father continued. “If not for the sun” The dragon spoke “we’d be stuck in an eternal night. And as much as I love the dark, without the sun plants would die, and in the long run we’d die too. The sun is really important, to all of us.”
