Nain was one of the first dragons to join clan Aestra-Svi after it moved to wind. He grew up in a wind clan of all coatls and faced a great deal of ostracism there due to his brown coloring, which was considered particularly dull for his clan.
A relatively friendly and relaxed dragon, Nain managed to build up a place for himself in the clan despite the discrimination he faced. It wasn't until he fell in love with another male coatl that the clan became truly unsafe for him. His partner, Ansen, was pressured into abandoning Nain and mating with a female member of the clan, which broke something in Nain. Unable to believe that Ansen truly didn't care for him, he spent his days trying to win him back. The clan didn't really care what Ansen did so long as he had a mate, but their abuse of Nain only increased.
One day, Nain found a dragon egg while out scavenging. The clan's laws dictated that all eggs found would be taken to the marketplace and sold, but Nain couldn't bring himself to give up the egg. He hid it and when it hatched into a small fae he named her Luena. For while he was happy. Luena loved him and didn't treat him badly for his feelings for Ansen or the color of his feathers, and in return he loved her back. Over time, he found that he could move on from Ansen's betrayal, and Luena gave him the strength to live with his clan in relative peace.
Soon enough, the clan discovered that Nain was stealing treasure to buy food and other necessities for Luena, who as a fae dragon needed different things than coatls. A raiding party set upon Luena while Nain was off scavenging and drove her out of the territory, telling her that they'd kill Nain if she ever returned.

When Nain returned he was stricken by grief and anger, and tried to attack the clan for what they'd done, hoping to find some information about where Luena had gone. Being a low-ranking dragon in the clan, he had never received combat training, and he was overwhelmingly outnumbered. The dragons seized the opportunity to fight back violently, and on the brink of death he fled the clan's territory.
Nain encountered Clan Aestra-Svi at the edge of the Windswept Plateau in bad condition, and the newly arrived wind clan took him in and helped him recover. Philia offered him a home in the clan and help with locating Luena in exchange for his agreement to help the clan find a place in the new and confusing wind territory. Understanding that he likely couldn't find Luena on his own or take care of her without a clan, Nain accepted the offer to join clan Aestra-Svi.
The last few months have seen Nain slowly recover from all the abuse he received at the claws of his previous clan, as he learned to feel safe and accepted around his new friends. He still has difficulty managing his temper, as his anger problems never completely went away, and still suffers from depression.
He often joins Bell on her trips to search for Luena, or goes off on his own with the company of other dragons Xuelian or Elderkin, as he seems to get along extremely well with the roaving mirror dragons.
