Fifth of the Great Elders


Buru is a Japanese dragon who guards the temple of the ocean kami, 海洋
(Kaiyō). As her loyal servant, he faithfully wards off anyone who tries to steal her pearl as that is where the power of the ocean kami is stored. He, however, will cause no harm to whoever comes to the temple to pay their respect to the ocean kami and/or pray to her. Many fishermen often bring gifts to Buru in order to win his respect, and thus, the respect of the ocean kami as well, since Buru is her most beloved and dear servant. In return, the water kami will grant the fishermen the ability to catch enough fish to nearly burst their nets. However, if anyone dares try to hurt Buru, steal her pearl from Buru, or desecrate her temple, that will make her very angry and she will drown them in a tsunami. Being the servant of the water kami, Buru has also been granted abilities by her, such as being able to breath under water, being an extremely strong swimmer, and being exceptional at catching fish. Because Buru's species doesn't eat fish, the water kami uses her spirit powers to turn all the many fish he catches into the equivalent weight in insects, thus always keeping him fully fed.
