Beloved Wife

Gabriel hated the Beastclans with a passion. It wasn't a fiery one. Instead, it was chill, aloof. Piercing.

He fought regularly for Dominance because his commander in the Sea of a Thousand Currents told him to. Fighting became instinct; hatred was reflex.

One year ago, that changed.

He patrolled the coastline, skimming just above the low waves. The dying sun painted a thousand hues - blood and copper - on the water. He could make out the strange lines where currents began and ended, swirling and tangling together.

Then he spotted him. A painted centaur was struggling over the sand, dragging a leg behind him. Though he limped, he still clutched a wartide spear.

Gabriel steeled himself to attack the centaur. But something held him back. Was it the injury? It wouldn't be a fair fight.

Or was it the youthful air about the centaur's face?

Before Gabriel could decide, the centaur hurled his spear to the sand and collapsed. Gabriel rushed to his aid - his need to help overcoming his hatred for the first time.
