"I'll take care of you, and our Clan."

That was what he had said, when he had promised Gale, his mate, when he proposed to her all those years ago under the oak tree. That was how the Galebright Clan had come to be. And for a while, it was true. Though scatterbrained somewhat, Aeolus, a Tundra born in the Zephyr Steppes, did what he thought was best for the Clan.

But it wasn't enough. The Clan struggled under Gale and Aeolus's reign. Sure, there were dragons coming and going, whether they were permanent additions to their slowly-growing Clan or not. But the biggest problem was that they didn't mix well. It was something both Gale and he had expected, what with all the different flight-aligned dragons passed through constantly. But the dragons began fighting each other, only to blame the leaders for their "inability to lead competently".

It hurt Aeolus. It hurt him, grieved him, to see his mate, Gale, suffer and blame herself for everything going wrong in the Clan. But there wasn't much he could do, other than bare his canine teeth and warn the dragons off. In desperation, he prayed. He prayed to the Windsinger, to help his mate, himself, and the Clan.

And when the Great Change came, Aeolus felt that the winds had listened to his pleas.

The Great Change was, indeed, great for him. It changed his physical appearance. He was no longer the mostly land-bound Tundra he had been earlier. He was a Spiral, free to roam the skies, together with his mate, who had become a Skydancer. In their joy, they agreed to rebuild the Clan from scratch.

And rebuild they did. The Council became the Themis Council, responsible for taking care of the inner workings of the Clan, while reporting to the High Command (consisting of Gale, Aeolus, and Storm, who had returned from a harrowing journey to the Scarred Wasteland, completely changed). A group sprang up for the messengers. The Nursery caretakers. Even a Guild for Shopkeepers and an Order for the arts came into being. And of course, a standing military order came into existence, with Aeolus as head.

And he loved it. As Lord Knight, he named the military order the Order of the Aether, and dedicated it to the Windsinger, in memory of the prayer that He had answered in their time of need.

To this day, Aeolus, mate to Gale, and Lord Knight of the Order of the Aether, can be found within the Clan's army barracks, checking the conditions of the knights' weapons, armors, and the like, and taking notes to report to both the Council and to his mate. On afternoons, he can be seen in the sky, doing cartwheels and other air tricks along with his beloved mate, Gale.
