History
Strant is... an experience, to say the least. He constantly spouts off about the "Hunger Games" and "vicious bloodthirsty bipedal gods" (to which many people reply that he is, in fact, bipedal, as are all wildclaws). On top of this, he often accuses Dexter of being an infamous serial killer that everyone presumed dead on Tixoi. The thing is, these wild statements and accusations are interspersed between tidbits of startling clarity and insight, putting everyone who talks to him on edge. He and Butterface have become friends of their mutual experience in the Hunger Games, though Butterface denies any knowledge of the gods Strant claims to exist.
They'll see. One day, they'll all see.

The Meta
It started out, as many things do, with a joke. Arcane Slack (Slack being a messaging system used by Arcane members to talk about everything from dom to lore to how their days are) started a little channel, run mostly by AriaEchoes, to play a game we all referred to as "bloodsport." In reality, we would take image links to dragons in our lairs and the names of said dragons, put them into a Hunger Games simulator, and play out the fight, hoping our dragons would emerge victorious. It was fun. It was entertaining. Of course, we couldn't always get 12 people to submit dragons. Sometimes, we had to fill them up. So came the role of "RNG derg," and so came the origin of Strantlummus.
It was a casual night in the bloodsport channel. Aria was hosting, so we all sent in our dergs. Unfortunately, there were a couple of open districts and no takers, so we did the usual- we opened up the scrying workshop, went to "Predict Morphology," and grabbed the first dragon we saw. In this case, it happened to be a little soil vipera/soil current/gold circuit plague wildclaw hatchling. Aria posted a link to him and said, "Name this dragon." I, being on my phone, opened it up in my Safari app, gave it a cursory glance, and said, "Strantlummus. This dragon should be named Strantlummus." I don't know what came upon me that day to name the dragon such a weird, meaningless name (I just mashed together some sounds and said "sounds like a name to me!"), but it is what it is. Aria thought it was funny, went with it, and we entered Strantlummus in the game. Unsurprisingly, he died very early on in the game, we laughed, and life went on.
The next day, Aria hosts another round of bloodsport. We once again found ourselves in need of randomly generated dragons, so I just said, "Well why don't we just use Strant again?" and posted his link. I had never closed it in my phone, so when I went to my Safari app that fateful day, I saw he was still there. I offered him up, and Aria thought it was a bit hilarious. That extremely oddly named dragon, back at it again. He was the first RNG derg to ever become a recurring character in the games (after, he would be followed by various other RNG dergs- the bushes, for example).
Aria decided he need a partner in crime. We decided the best route would be a female wildclaw of a different element in the colors gold/gold/soil. Thus, Summultnarts was born.

Strant and Summ became a meme, in all honesty. Strant's claim to fame was the fact that he always died early one and always died in extremely stupid manners, like falling out of trees or into frozen lakes. He was a huge klutz. Summ was famous for a different reason; she was vicious in her goal to win, taking out as many as she could.
You see, we established a rule: Any RNG dragon that won the games more than once would be made "real." This meant we would attempt to make them an actual dragon, colors, genes, element, and all, on Flight Rising. Summultnarts wanted to win. She wanted to escape the loop that was her life and death in the arena. She wanted something outside.
When I finally bred Strant, he hadn't won yet. Summultnarts had, multiple times. It was the ultimate betrayal for her. Everything she wanted, everything she deserved... It had been given to the klutz, the failure, the joke. And so Summ became angry, so very, very angry. She wanted more than anything to be real. And Strant was the greatest object of her hatred, by far, until recently...

Huddling for Warmth
Summ returned to the campsite, carrying more firewood. She immediately saw Strant poking at the fire with a stick, struggling to keep his meager fire going.
He was clearly shivering in the cold night air, despite the blanket draped over his shoulders. Summ sighed and Strant jumped with the start. The corner of the blanket shifted with the slight movement and fell into the fire, immediately catching fire.
Panicked, Strant immediately threw his blanket onto the ground and tried to stomp it out as Summ looked on with only mild annoyance.
Summ calmly put down the firewood, and stepped over to the growing fire. Summoning her meager Water magic, she put the fire out easily.
The two dragons, hatchlings only in appearance, stood there for a moment.
"You realize that's our only blanket, right?" Summ questioned.
"Yeah..." Strant answered, looking at his the partially-charred, partially-soaked fabric on the ground between them.
There was another long silence before Summ informed, "You know what? I'm not even mad anymore."
She turned back towards the firewood and started arranging it over Summ's meager flame.
Strant was silent for a long moment, and she could feel the awkwardness radiating off of him.
Finally, he stepped over and sat down next to her.
"Summ," he finally began, "Why do you hate me?"
Now she started. She looked at up him, half-expecting to see a joking expression on his face.
But of course he wasn't joking. He wasn't the type to joke. Instead, his Plague-red eyes shimmered in the growing firelight.
"I don't..." she began, but she stopped herself. She sighed and answered, "Because...you have everything I want...everything I've earned. You have a clan, and friends, and a life outside all this." She gestured around at the forest, the Arena, the Games. "This...this is all I've got. This is all I live for and I..." Her voice got really quiet. "I don't want to believe this is it."
"But that's just it," Strant chimed in. He was suddenly hysterical, "This is all I am! Even when I'm at home...Even when I'm with my clan, this is all I can think about. I'm always thinking about the things I've seen and done, and desperately trying to make sure they never happen again! And...And I always fail..."
Summ felt something wet roll down her cheek, and she realized she was crying. Normally, she was able to stay angry, stay strong. But the only thing she had to direct that anger at was suddenly just a dragon. Just like her...maybe the only one like her...
She reached over and pulled him into a hug. She just started sobbing. Her chest heaved and her eyes stung and she was crying for the first time in her existence.
And then Strant was crying, too, and hugging her, too.
"It isn't fair!" Summ cried, "Why?! Why do you get everything I want?! Why is it still not enough for you?! Why do I have to hate the one person who actually understands me?!"
"Summ," Strant whimpered, "I...I don't know...I wish I knew, but I don't. I don't know anything, Summ. Not like you. You're so smart and resourceful and brave...You're actually good at this! I'm just doomed to fail!"
There was so much more to say, but neither of them could find the words or the strength to say it. They both took solace in the fact that the other already knew. That whatever words they assigned to their plight would simply be inadequate.
Strant, Summ noticed, wasn't shivering anymore.
(SUMMULTNARTS and STRANTLUMMUS huddle for warmth.)
