Ignetius was found in the forges of the Flamecaller, herself. A Coatl was stoking the flame, and when he went to put the steel into the forge to heat it up for molding, they dropped the metal rod in surprise, and there he lay, curled up in the piping hot coals. "Small one!" The Flamecaller said, once she was alerted of the hatchling, leaning down and peering into the blistering-hot furnace. "What are you doing, in there? This is no place for a hatchling." "Mama Fire, I was just taking a nap. I heard the ring of steel and felt the burn of passion, and it woke me up from such a long slumber!" Igniteus squeaked, opening his brilliant orange eyes, peering up at her. "Why do you strike metal into these intricate shapes? Why not melt the rock and form it?" "Because the rock will crumble and die, in eons. Steel is strong, and if we forge it enough, it's even strong enough to chip away the earth, itself." She rumbled, content at his curiosity. "We forge weapons and armor for all of Dragonkind, child, to protect them from one another, from the Beastclans, from the Shade, dare it ever come back." "What is the Shade, Fire Mother?" He squeaked, cowering in the coals of the forge. "A great Evil, child, but we drove him off.. I and the rest of the dieties." "If he comes back?" "He dares not, child." "But where are the other dieties?? Are you alone, with your fire children?" "Yes, child. As it should be. The Others are weak, squabbling about petty things." "Oh." He paused, seeming confused. "What about?" "I do not know, child, nor do I have the time to bother myself with it. I have work to do." "I'll find out for you, Mother!" He piped up, perking up immediately. "I'll go around, and see what they're fighting over. If we can stop the fighting, we can be One again!" "If that is what fuels you, child." She murmured, reaching in and plucking the small Guardian from the forge. "If that's what fuels you, stoke that flame, and go where your soul calls." |
