Basil

"Name?"

You look up as you enter the Midnight Whispers clan lair. A short coatl sits on her stubby hind legs a few paces in front of you, a sheet of fresh parchment and a quill in her paws, peering at you expectantly over her spectacles.
"I asked for your name," she repeats, hissing in a mildly exasperated tone.
You find yourself apologizing rather profusely, and hastily give her your name.

Basil is a retired witch turned clan registrar--a funny position indeed, and one that is mildly protested by some constantly-disgruntled dragons ("but only the ones who come and go and don't do anything for the clan themselves anyway" --Basil). A dragon who believes in great order among the chaos of the inn-like life of the lair, Basil took it upon herself to dutifully record all members and visitors of the clan, and their comings and goings. She sits day by day at her desk, scribbling away records of visitors, members who have gone to serve the Windsinger, newborn hatchlings, and those who have left for other clans. She has stacks and stacks of neatly organized scrolls, all in their respective places, in her self-proclaimed office space, lit by some oil lamps so that she may scratch down details deep into the night. She works very closely with Luca, the clan scribe and messenger (and though she acts annoyed with his antics, he may well be her favorite dragon in the clan--she thinks of him as a grandson).

Basil lacks a sense of humor and is very serious about her work, but is not unkind. She will gladly assist anyone who requires help with nearly anything, whether or not it pertains to her work, but has little tolerance for those who interrupt her simply to waste her time. However, she does what she can to improve the quality of life within her clan. She just so happens to believe that being meticulous and organized is an important part of that. She is a busybody, so when Leilan suggested that she make a written record of the clan's history, she gladly obliged. The place was hectic enough without someone taking notes, after all!

Basil is asexual and heteroromantic.
