Genie was a hired exalt-hunter on behalf of the Arcanist. He is, by far, the only exalt-hunter that has ever surpassed Vigil and found the actual clan's location. He was prepared to take down the entire clan and reveal the location of the legendary sanctuary that had only been whispered as a rumor between his fellow arcane exalt-hunters.

Many rewards awaited him, including his own freedom, when he returned with dozens of dragons that had committed such treason as to dodge their responsibilities...

...but then he laid eyes on Malificus. He couldn't break away from the lovely snapper's Light-eyed gaze, even as the armour-clad snapper knocked him unconscious. Genie spent 3 days in chains until he'd convinced Snowdrift--leader at the time-- that he wanted to spend his days in this clan with Malificus. Snowdrift believed him, though Malificus needed a bit more convincing.
