Ever since evil was buried beneath the Blackhand castle grounds, there have been two crypt keepers; one sworn to guard and manage the structure itself, and one to guard the creature for whom the tomb was built. These guardians’ origins have long since faded from history, but all that know of their existence understands that the duty they perform every waking minute has come at great sacrifice. Long ago, these two beasts might have been valiant heroes, warriors, lovers even, with strong hearts rich with dreams and desires of their own, but in order to become keepers of this particular crypt, they had to lose the very thing that makes them guardians. Their souls were drawn from their bodies and in its place was set only a singular need; to protect the crypt. They gave up their beings for this sacred duty, gaining immortal forms long since drained of color after too many years spent hidden underground. Now they are little more than stone machines, ever vigilant in their tasks. Catacomb, the smaller of the two, protects the crypt’s structure. She twines herself about the ivy that grows across the stone walls, using ice and stone to repair the cracks that form in time, while her mate, Relic, looms above the undead creature, always unseen but watching the rotting corpse beneath. No creature enters this vile place without them knowing, and no creature leaves it without their permission.
