Kol is a dance instructer.
▬▬▬▬▬▬ He is also blind. He's never told the whole story, but we know that he lost his sight in a magical experiment gone wrong, which also left him with all his other senses heightened. This happened to him at a very young age, and according to him, dancing is what helped him regain his focus in a world that was suddenly pitch black and too loud. "Is your world really ALL darkness, Lärare [teacher]?" one of his students asked one day. "No, lilla du [little one], not anymore," he said with a smile, "Now, I see sound. Every sound has a color. I see texture. Every texture has a color. There is so much color in my world, lilla du, do not worry. I see more than you do. I see more than your parents do. I see everything all the clearer, since I am not bothered with eyes." When he first joined the clan, everyone thought he was going to be a pretty mild mannered, quiet, older dragon sort, but eventually they found out that he's a bit of a player. He has no intention of playing for keeps. He's also not as old as everyone keeps thinking he is, he's just got an old soul. He also cheats at poker, which Lucifix often grumbles about. "You cheat at poker," Rai pointed out. Lucifix just continued to grumble under his breath. And then they found out he's a shapeshifter. He tried to keep it a secret, probably seeing how Aiedail is such an outcast from society because of it, but he was found out before long. Most dragons don't seem to have as much of a problem with it coming from him though, probably because he still prefers his dragon form, unlike Aiedail, and unlike Aiedail, doesn't often mimic the human form. He prefers the forms of other upright beings, tougher beings, such as the Longneck and the Talonok. His forms are usually a combination of things, some things recognizable, some completely alien. It's guessed that the stranger parts are based off things he never actually saw, but has encountered after his blindness, which would mean that it's a translation of what he thinks whatever it is looks like. However, it could also be things from his imagination, though Nocturns aren't known to be very imaginative. They're usually too busy mimicking everyone and everything else. Since Kol is blind though, his mimicking tendencies don't seem to be as strong as in others, though this is also due to his deep meditation skills. Kol is very skilled at knowing everything, but also at knowing only precisely what he wants to know at a given time. It's how he keeps the world from getting overwhelming, and it's how he is able to shape shift. He has to be able to "turn the taps off, as well as on." |

▬▬▬▬▬▬ ...that he isn't outcast for the very thing that Aiedail is, she doesn't seem to bare him any ill will. Dragons have caught sight of them practicing dueling with quarter staffs in their borrowed forms, though it seems that the private lessons are supposed to be a secret. Kol was quite impressed with what she already knew, and has tried to ask her who taught her, but like every other bit of her past, she keeps it to herself. Eventually he stopped asked. He understand the need to keep a private past, having one of his own. It is because of these lessons that it is speculated that Kol did not originally find his peace in dancing, as he tells it, but in the martial arts, from which he transitioned into dancing. It could be that his teacher, whoever that was, this has also never been revealed, schooled him in both simultaneously. We may never know. Kol is quite open about his past, though he's never mentioned his original clan or his parents by name, up until soon after the accident. Then his tales become more and more obscure, up until the clan he was in just before this one, where, he boasts, he trained several champion dancers, but that they all became so talented, he decided to let them teach their own children, and spread his gifts elsewhere. Avi is one of his most frequent students. It is hoped, by those interested in her future, at least, that dancing will act as a kind of therapy for Avi; that learning one way of expressing herself will open up doors to the other. It is whispered by some that she will actually talk to Kol, but that's not true. She's quite expressive and open with him, as she basically worships him, but she has yet to say a word to anybody. She shows great talent though, and he dotes on her like a grandfather would a grandchild. She also teases him and gets away with a lot more than most young dragons are allowed in that direction. He usually teaches all the hatchlings born to the clan at one point or another in their youth, though their parents usually insist on sitting by, to be sure he doesn't also try to teach them shapeshifting. Nrogara is interested to see if he will teach Avi. Her lessons are always supervised as well by concerned individuals, but Nrogara is sure that if Avi wanted to learn, Kol would find a way to teach her. So far though, Avi hasn't shown an inclination one way or another. |
