Virus and Archive are not dragons, at least not any longer, no matter how much they may look like them. It all began with a meteor that crashed down to Sornieth. A dragon from Clan Arkatek, budding in astronomy, went out to investigate… though no one mentions his name out of respect. For within the meteor was an infection, unlike any seen before. The infection swiftly took over the dragon, leaving nought but an empty husk, and a few fragments of knowledge. For that is what the infection does. It assimilates the first lifeform it encounters, attempting to spread.

Armed with the knowledge of the poor unfortunate who was the prior host of its vessel, the infection made its way back to the clan. It was late, and the unusual behaviour of the vessel was not the most… out of the ordinary thing in the lair. And, alas, it was too late for the vessel, and his mate. When the next morning dawned, there were two nearly-identical dragons in the lair. Concern was high. But the infection was wily, and now had the intelligence of two. It would wait until the time was right to strike. Until then, it pretended to be its vessels, attempting to not arouse more suspicion.

But when that time came, it made one crucial miscalculation. It thought that Error, the loner, would be the ideal first target. But it did not account for the fact that Error was not a true dragon either. At least, not fully. So instead of a swift and quiet assimilation, instead it was revealed for what it was. An infection.

Rather than excise it, though, the collective minds of the clan decided, possibly against better judgement, that it was worth studying. So, they, after managing to briefly contain it, devised a series of spells. One to confine it to the limits and capabilities of the two bodies it had assimilated already, and a second to tether it to the lair, so that the first was unlikely to be able to be reversed accidentally.

Today, the infection bides its time, watched constantly by living statues. It knows that if it were to try anything, it would be swiftly terminated, and it cannot have that. Instead, it both laments the inefficient method of reproduction that it must rely on, and also plots. It has all the time in the world to think, and Eclipse is already a possible ally, so long as they remove the hateful Error from the equation.

Eventually, all will join it. It will become all.

All it has to do is wait.
