"Whaddya mean it's too hot and stuffy in here?"

Scala is a native of the Starfall Isles, from a clan that had a large propensity for Cryomancers. She was just thankful that very few of them were actual Ice dragons, else the eternal winter over their small island would be that much colder. As it was, it was barely liveable for her… she often took refuge with the clan crafter, a small Fae who had a larger talent for Fire magic. And, more importantly, a forge with which to warm her bones. At first, she tended to just sleep, listen to him talk and talk and talk, and enjoy not having snow form on her scales, but, after a while, she began watching the little Fae.

It began slowly at first, but eventually she worked up the courage to actually ask for tutoring in his art. For his part, the Fae was happy to oblige, fearing that he would never have a chance to pass on his teachings after Scala’s clan had taken over his island and forge, and forced him to make magic-infused items for them.

But things made a turn for the worse. There was a change in the clan’s leadership, and the tolerance for Fire magic plummeted. When the Fae refused to stop practicing his art… he was killed. Saddened at the loss of her mentor, and forbidden from following in his footsteps, she left the very same day, wandering aimlessly in the Starfall Strand, until she came upon a curiosity. The lair of Clan Arkatek.

Scala has two sides to her. Either she’s the laziest being in Sornieth, and doesn’t want to move a muscle, or she displays such single-minded dedication to a task, and gets it done. This is what makes her and Javax such a perfect pair. Because neither of them care if the other’s busy doing… well, anything. But on the off times that both of their moods align perfectly, it’s a whirlwind of flaming passion. …other dragons tend to play nice with Karel during those times, because the lair can sometimes get uncomfortably warm.

During the times when she’s working, and crafting, dragons from all over the lair are welcome to watch. As long as they close the door to not let a draft in, don’t complain about the heat, and are nimble enough to not be squashed when she moves around her workstation. Sometimes there are hazards to being around a gigantic imperial who doesn’t pay any attention to anything but what she’s working on…

Something that - to this day - sets off Scala is Ice magic. She’s very bitter towards Cryomancers, and lashes out at anyone that actually uses Ice magic in her presence. For this reason, she loathes Karel, for she feels Instance is an insult to her directly. Oddly enough, she doesn’t feel quite the same hatred for the Ice Queen’s creation, because she knows he had no choice in the manner of his creation.
