Biography
Botanist, if you couldn't tell by the fact that he's literally wearing trees. When on a planet of humanoids, he would often take on a very elfin form of that planet's species. On a world of dragonoids, he opted for something he felt similar to that- smooth and light, but not too pointy, like faes.
(Echo tells him he's far from light, but he ignores her because it's not the actual weight he's going for, but the aesthetic. She sighs, and puts up with it.)
The birds are actually from one of the planets before Sornieth. Echo gave them to him as a form of courtship. "Gave," however, is quite a strong word, as they are quite sentient and spend their days yammering in his ears as he goes from plant to plant in his workshop. He constantly tells them they're annoying and need to leave him alone, but on the days they do spend away from his greenhouse, he finds the quiet very lonely.

(storing echo's bio here until i find a replacement for her)
Echo is a zoologist. She's the perfect counterpart to Europa's botany; she'll often inform him on the various animals and insects that have a great impact on the plant life of the region.
They weren't mates at the beginning of the journey- in fact, before Tixoi's destruction, they found each other quite distasteful. This was partially due to their fields of study. Echo would make fun of Europa for studying dumb plants, and Europa would tell her that her animals needed his research to survive.
After Tixoi's destruction, their bickering all but disappeared. They both just wanted to keep the last remnants of their planet alive, and knew that working closely together would be the best bet for that. The plants and animals they have are few in comparison to what was on the world they lost, but they thrive.
It didn't take long for that newfound need and respect to form into something more. Their courtship was... awkward, to say the least, but it worked out. They are quite committed to each other.
The cat was a gift from Europa during their courtship, somewhat in response to Echo's gift of birds to Europa. Honestly, "gift" is used quite loosely. Europa's birds are sentient beings who chose to join up with the colony when their home planet was destroyed by the Shade, and so is Echo's cat as well as any other cats "owned" by members of the colony. Their relationship is mutually beneficial, and they've formed deep bonds.
