Biography

Hermes loved to travel. Ever since he was a hatchling, he has felt a wanderlust that has led him across the world. He has been to the starfall isles to the shifting expanse, to the southern icefield and now to the viridian labyrinth. Among the colossal trees, Hermes felt very small indeed. Even smaller than usual for a fae. As he flitted among the trees, he enjoyed the sounds of nature. The wind blowing through the trees, birds chirping, monkeys chattering, and the distant howl of a gibbon or howler monkey. Presently, Hermes heard one of these howls, louder than the ones before it. What could that be? Curious, he started flying the direction of the sound. As he flew, he heard it again, louder now. It seemed to be coming from one of the taller trees up ahead. As Hermes climbed higher, the scruffy black shape of some kind of monkey appeared among the leaves. The creature was dancing around on a large branch, and when it turned around, he saw that it had the tail of a scorpion. A manticore screamer! He'd never seem one up close before. Quickly, Hermes reached into his bag and brought out a mango he had picked earlier. He crept closer and held out his claw, offering the treat to the monkey. The manticore stopped its silly dance and looked at Hermes with big, shiny eyes. It carefully held out its hand, then its paw darted out and snatched up the fruit. The manticore sat eating the mango, its eyes never leaving the dragon I front of it. When it finished, Hermes handed it another mango, and another. When he was out of fruit, Hermes turned to go. As he began to fly away, though, the manticore began to climb out of the tree after him. "I'm sorry, buddy." Said Hermes. "I don't have anymore snacks for you." The manticore just looked at him with those big brown eyes, then continued to follow him. "What, are you just going to follow me home?" he asked it. In reply, in made a small hooting sound. "Alright then, come along." Hermes said, smiling. To this day, Hermes adventures with his little buddy by his side.
