Dagon, from the very start, felt his heart beat to another tune. Born in a burning ember far too bright for normal eyes to even view, he was raised to have the fierce spirit of a fire dragon. But even so, he could not truly mimic what he was taught. He preferred the cold, nightly chill, and the silence of snow falling far from his magma-borne home. He’d watch in wonder from afar, how soft and gentle that snow must be how peaceful and lonely it’d be—to be so pure and yet melt to a single touch. But to the burning flames of a fire dragon, ice was weak, ice was to be destroyed. Dagon’s colors reflected who he was internally—ice at heart, his colors soft and cold as snow. It was to be without a doubt that he’d bring attention to himself from the other, more brightly colored fire dragons, which also inhabited the Ashfall Waste. For a time, he was able to keep himself isolated and alone, content with just watching the snow fall from far, far away. But as he grew older, the constant jeers, the bullying, and aggression of his peers grew more and more prominent. It wasn’t until he was forced under water for a long period of time did he realize—no matter what he did, no matter what he wanted, he could not truly be a fire dragon, and that alone would be the cause of his death in this merciless, ferocious magma-borne place. To them, it’d just be like getting rid of a traitor, and inevitably, that would be the sole explanation for his ‘execution.’ And, with sadness in his heart, he knew that it’d be accepted without complaint. Dagon set off on his own, traversing the frost bitten lands of the Southern Icefield, with a heart full of fear. He had been afraid, afraid of the ice, too, rejecting him. That the cold would be too much to bear and that he would have to return to the burning hell of a home. But with each step he took, he felt an odd, comforting feeling welling within his chest. The snow had welcomed him, and he was able to resonate with it well. After many months, Ice crystals had even grown from his wings, and he found himself able to manipulate both fire and ice. The two energies burned both hot and cold and he used this ability to fight back the fire dragons that had once tormented him that had attempted to invade this land. They had been unable to fight back the terrifying burn as both fire and ice bit into their skin—unable to turn into water, but place a deep burn deep beneath their skin was more than just torture, and soon, they had fled entirely from the Southern Icefield. With his newfound ability, Dagon became a vigilante of sorts. He worked from the shadows, forcing away every threat that came to his new home. Like snow, cold and lonely, he lived on, as a hidden guardian, protecting not only the ice, but those who sought comfort within it, much like he did.
