Deathmourner

Somewhere among the arcane ruins an egg cracks. Mother leans over the nest, vibrating with excitement. A dark, little nose peeks through the cracks. Pieces of shell fall away and a beautiful baby can be seen laying exhausted where once had been a labor of hatching. The little golden trimmed girl opens her stunning pink eyes for the first time...the world is astounding! So many colors and shapes come into focus she has to blink. Then something happens. There's a rumble and the hatchling squeaks frantically--searching for food to fill this terrible void that is eating away at her insides. Mother is there to comfort her and satisfy that hunger instantly. The little one falls fast asleep. She is safe and content for now.
