Zelphis' Beginnings

Zelphis was born at the beginning of the Windswept Plateau's
creation. Created by their Father, the Whimsical Windsinger, Zelphis
and his brother, Dresan, were born of the creativity, freedom, and
fun that their Father so fervently believed in. Intellect was Zelphis’
best friend, and he quickly discovered just how different he and his
siblings were from the other, faster multiplying, dragons. The
loneliness that consumed him from the mere thought drove him to
quiet his beautiful poetry.

He still, indeed, wrote. Many a satchel could often be found stuffed
full of wrinkled, yellowed parchment with elegant calligraphy tracing
expertly crafted poems - despite him having a bottomless satchel that
he should use. However, now, with his revelations, Zelphis could
not bear to speak or share his words. He believed they would rip him
away further from the others. Yet, he couldn't bear to not partake in
the elegance of words. So, with his Father's blessing, Zelphis left his
home and family, to seek out the greatest of wordsmiths. He would
be their scribe, never in the limelight again.

Centuries went by like this. Any great poet's work could always be
traced back to Zelphis, if one looked close enough. Zelphis could
never limit himself to just scribing, no, he had to be a part of the
process. Of course, no one would ever know this.

Older, and now with a much larger gap between himself and the
other dragons, Zelphis found that the constant roaming no
longer suited him as it did in his youth. Yearning to settle down
and find those that he might once more call family, he wandered
the land with a new purpose. After years upon years of
weariness and loneliness, Zelphis now had a pep in his step
and a song singing loud and jubilantly in his heart once more.
He meandered from clan to alliance to nomadic village, sharing
his mighty collection of poetry.

He did, finally, find a clan to call his own. Immortalizing this decision,
Zelphis wrote his clan leader a poem. However, with how he had
been avoiding any attention for so long, he could not find the
courage to personally present it. In a rather roundabout way, he
found a way to gift the poem, but never took credit. His new
clan-mates teased him, often asking whether he wrote poetry
himself or just scribed. He never directly answered this question.
He couldn't bear to lie to his new family. Instead, he kept it a secret
that the poems found scribed in gorgeous, colorful ink for Hatch Day
celebrations was his work. He told no one that some of the most
famous songs sung by bards in taverns were his handiwork. He
simply smiled, when pressed, and quietly said that all poetry came
from the heart of Windsinger.

Zelphis would never know that the Windsinger, his dear Father,
knew of his work and was, as he had been during Zelphis’ first
flight, very proud.
