Umber

Shaman, sometime necromancer, exorcist, performer of seances, warrior against every kind of ghost, spirit, demon, haunt – where the shadows gather and the dead walk and abominations of nature rise up from the earth and air, that's where you'll find Umber – the mercenary who deals with the dead, undead, and undying.

She's picked her way through swamps filled with will-o-wisps, where eyes follow and claws snatch from just beneath the surface of the water. She's fought her way to the center of catacombs and done battle with eyeless, rotting things in the dark. She's come face-to-face with the spirits that possess dragons and banished them back to the outer darkness. Mysterious disappearances, haunted lairs, strange lights and noises, and things that go bump in the night are her specialties.

Umber has a long and shadowy history. She was born in Nature; that much is clear. Early in life, she traveled to the Light territories and discovered a fascination with the undead. Light dragons aren't particularly keen on acknowledging their goddess' having created eldritch abominations, but Umber persisted and was rewarded when a secretive necromancer took her under his wing. To his surprise, Umber showed a stunning talent for magics that deal with death, undeath, and spirits. He had never known a Nature dragon to take to those skills before. Soon enough, Umber ventured out into Sornieth seeking adventure. She hired out her services for those that could pay.

Umber recently discovered an interest in the magics of survival, and for that she headed to Plague. She fell in with the Sunforger and Chaos Star clans and uses them as her home base, following them back to the Hewn City when they made their return. She considered the move good fortune, as it brought her closer to one of her main areas of work among the shadowed old stones. She often travels to the Ghostlight Ruins or Cairnstone Rest, doing her work. She has even been known to help the Beastclans – from time to time she helps a group of Talonok investigate why their tengu kin are vanishing into darkness. Her sword, candles, grimoire, and collection of protective charms have seen much use.
