The sun was setting. Jacktree looked over the Crystalspine Reaches to the edge of the glimmering sea. His favorite time of day was approaching: dusk. The twinkle of the stars shining through the last remaining tendrils of the sun touching the horizon gave him feelings that he couldn’t describe. “If only I had someone to share these with,” thought Jacktree.

It was bittersweet. It was such a beautiful landscape. He didn’t want to find someone until they gave him the same feeling the dusk did, and he wasn’t sure that would ever happen. Dusk faded to night quicker than he liked so Jacktree made his way back home to his lair.

Jacktree looked around as he got home. His clan was called the Lost and Found for a reason. There was a diverse set of dragons, young and old, colorful and dull, that had made their way for one reason or the other to the Starfall Isles, and having nowhere else to stay had made their home with the clan. It was honestly beneficial. There were plenty of record keepers, dreamers, transmuters, and even some who wanted to be fighters. The Archanist would be proud of the diversity for sure.

Even with all the different flights and types and personalities, there were days when Jacktree felt something was missing from his life. He was looking for something more. But he couldn’t tell what.

His bestfriend saw him come in. “Jackie, you look like you’re still lost in the clouds. What’s going on man?”

Rane was a typical guardian dragon. He had joined the clan when Jacktree was just a hatchling and they had been friends ever since. They were so different. Rane was a warrior through and through. Once Jacktree’s dad was a high enough level, he had promised to train Rane even though technically Rama hated fighting. Jacktree had no interest at all in the Coli but could appreciate his friend’s vigor.

“I don’t know man, I just feel like something is missing from my life. Something big and important. But with everything I have here, everything that’s basically been handed to me on a silver platter, I can’t even imagine what that would be,” Jacktree pondered aloud with his friend.

Rane interrupted briefly, “Which is weird considering your imagination runs tangents all the time.” The jest was playful and Jacktree swatted at Rane with his tail in return. “Seriously Jackie, maybe it’s time you considered taking a mate. You’re at that age where you’re finally mature enough to breed. It’s a natural instinct. You’re pretty well colored. Maybe look at some gene change scrolls to up your rareness and find a pretty mate.”

The idea of finding a female dragon to settle down with felt weird to Jacktree. His friend was right that he was feeling the urge to settle down, and was right still when he said he was old enough to feel breeding urges. But he just couldn’t even consider the thought of settling down with a girl.

“Obviously that thought is making you uncomfortable,” Rane said with a chuckle thinking his friend was still just a little immature to think about breeding instead of thinking about the root of his discomfort.

Jacktree looked carefully at his friend which silenced the laughter. “Actually,” he started hesitantly, “I don’t think I’m looking for a female dragon.”

The realization clicked for Rane and he replied, “Well, let’s start looking for some hot male dragons then.”
