ARTAXERXES
commander // founder
ABOUT
The universe is never black and white, something that is clear given Artaxerxes' very existence. A star is not something that one might consider a sentient being, but magic works in strange ways, and Artaxerxes was made out of that very magic. He was born into the world not through normal means, but rather hatched from the stars himself, more accurately the star which the inhabitants of this world call their sun. The young hatchling was born with no name, no gender, no age and no purpose. No, he simply appeared on the earth with little to announce his appearance. As a result, he was forced to create a name for himself, to create an identity and carve a place out for himself in the history of time, until he was taken back into his vessel, the sun. His name is a reflection of his very personality, an old Persian name meaning "whose reign is through truth." Already at a young age in existence, the hatchling had believed himself to be a benevolent creature. He was no god, but he felt like he was responsible for the safekeeping of those underneath him. He has no true loyalties to any one organization, favoring movement and fluidity over settling in order to spread light to as many corners of the world as possible. Despite this, he has a strong respect and loyalty to individuals who he comes across and learns to befriend. One such individual is Lirim, the very embodiment and vessel of the void itself. Many fear the void and their intentions, however Artaxerxes had learned of their pain at an early age, choosing to try and help them. As a result, he often travels with the creature no matter where they go. Artaxerxes lacks any reproductive organs, and cannot multiply in any means possible. He is derived of the "humanly pleasures" that mortals indulge in, though he does not miss such activities. He identifies as male despite having no true sex, and finds himself attracted to no one and does not seek sexual interactions. He has yet to find anyone that might change his opinions.

The moment that Artaxerxes stumbled upon the nameless clan, chaotic and disorganized due to the death of their recent leader, he knew that he had to help them. It was like a calling, a true purpose for him that would allow him to help the lives of more people once again. He had been wandering for a while without stumbling across anyone, making it to the shadowy expanse that the clan resided in by accident. The first to greet him was a dragon who seemed ethereal in their own way, though he could not determine any celestial powers that they might have been connected to.

He was soon to learn that the dragon, Adomania, was the closest thing that the disorganized group had to a leader. A curse seemed to plague the group no matter where they went, eating down those in power one after another. At first it was Ronan, the clan's original leader and founder. Next came the prince who quickly took his place, Axenius, and then most recently Iraia, the highest ranking general. No one was willing to step up to the title of leader, scared for their own life. Adomania only ever called himself a guardian, recoiling from the title of ruler like it was the plague itself. Perhaps it was? No matter what it was, Artexerxes knew that this was where he had to stay. And so stay he did, watching over the group as it's celestial guardian. Ever since he had stepped up to the title, no strange and devious occurrences had happened, giving Adomania the courage to step up to full-time ruler with the positive votes of most of his new clan. But even as the rest of the clan remains in rest and peace, something that they visibly needed, Artexerxes spent his nights and days warding off even the most subtle of evil from the lands, hoping to find a permanent solution to whatever curse ails the clan.

Eventually Adomania faded into history as well, dying of unnatural causes after many months of suffering. Artaxerxes, now fueled with even more determination, felt it was his sacred duty to make sure that the clan would prosper, if only with a few remaining members. As the group started to fall apart, dragons leaving to move to different clans, he gathered the last remains of the dwindling numbers and ventured forth to find a new place of rest.

He took over as leader of the small gang soon afterwards, nominated by his peers. They became a traveling group, wandering from place to place and never settling down for longer than a month before moving again. The group started to grow, gaining members from different clans and areas they found. The future, for the first time Artaxerxes arrived, looked hopeful. He could only hope that it would remain that way.

Soon enough, the group had regained its stability, nothing able to curse a celestial being. As a result, Artaxerxes succeeded from the position of sole ruler to instead join two others, Lorne and Pax, in a different role. Although the group had no leader anymore and was nervous about their fates, Artaxerxes deemed them ready to rule as a democracy and to instantiate a rule of popular sovereignty. The group quickly embraced the idea, although they still sought stability in other places that Artaxerxes could not provide or promise to them.

Appearance-wise, Artaxerxes is nothing short of ethereal. Unlike his void counterpart, Artaxerxes does not have any of the intimidating characteristics that the other creature holds, instead morphing his features into something serene and regal. Even during times of battle, the male never deems it necessary to shed this appearance, despite his ability to shapeshift. The only time he shifts is to simple change into different creatures with the same serene characteristics. Despite the fact that he can turn into most anything he wishes to, Artaxerxes' main bodies are that of a dragon and a raven. He keeps his golden black coloration throughout all of his bodies, with a main dark body and golden undertones. In all his bodies, Artaxerxes carries horns, and golden feather-like fur in patches around his body. His entire body also permeates a beautiful aura that calms anyone near him.

Artaxerxes is an extremely benevolent creature, empathetic to a fault towards the pains of mortals. The realization that he cannot help everyone on the planet pains him to no end, though he does not give up despite it all and strives to help whoever he can. Yet nothing is black and white in this world, and such a fiery creature could not simply not acknowledge the part of him which sometimes explodes. Artaxerxes has a vast patience towards most, however once his anger is unleashed it is vehement as the sun itself. He does not forget and finds it hard to forgive the wrongs done against him, though thankfully it takes a lot to get him in this state in the first place. He is overly critical over mortals and their habits, often berating them for performing actions that get either them or their kin killed. He does not understand the mortal's need for war and destruction, often finding himself at a loss between helping them despite it all or letting them die out without his interference and inevitable failure.

For an ice dragon, this boy sure looks like he belongs in light! I love how the gold jewelry brings out his wings, but you've also added the inkwell wings and the horns to accent his darker primary and tertiary! He's also got the candles, which I am an absolute sucker for. What can I say, I love everything about this boy!

@Sylphiette
Holy moly I'm in love! I read his entire bio and he's just so cool and very well fleshed out. You have a wonderful writing style... your word choice is impeccable and descriptive. Beautiful. Just like Artaxerxes!! I'm in awe over how amazing his accent and apparel works together. He's probably my favorite of all your dragons! Ahhhh I seriously can't stop fawning over him!!! He's the BEST!

@Joydom
I will never not love a good gold and black dragon. I swear, this guy is absolutely stunning! Would totally steal haha. The apparel merges perfectly with the accent, if you didn't know much about fr apparel you wouldn't be able to tell where apparel met accent!
