One cloudy night, during a particularly difficult winter, Howl spotted a young dragon wandering the edges of the shifting expanse. The hatchling was not alone and seemed to be traveling with a pack of winter wolves. Howl almost turned away from the strange sight, but something deep within his heart compelled him to investigate this anomoly. He approached slowly and cautiously, without weapons or back-up, so as not to frighten the pack. The wolves circled him, yapping and nipping at his tail, and the tiny Nocturne mimicked their behaviors. Despite his precarious situation, Howl continued his approach towards the baby dragon. He could sense that the wolves did not know what to make of the young hatchling in their midst, and his suspicions were confirmed when the pack leader nudged the Nocturne towards him. The hatchling growled and swiped at Howl as he reached out to her. When the pack around him calmed, their agitation turning to curiosity, so did the baby dragon and Howl was able to scoop her up in his arms. The wolves clearly knew that they were no match to care for a baby dragon and Howl was smitten with the young, wild beast. He decided he would take her into his home lair and raise her as his own daughter. Howl returned to Freshpeachez lair carrying the tiny dragon who scratched, bit, and howled all the way. He decided to name her Redemption, after the idea that she was being saved from a life of lonliness and uncertainty with the wolves. The other dragons welcomed the new addition, although they kept their distance lest they get bit. Redemption grew up different from the other hatchlings; even from the ones who, like her, had no blood lineage. She refused to conform to the customs and norms of the lair, preferring instead to maintain her status as a "lone wolf". She eventually did learn to communicate with the others, through grunts and gestures, but refused to take a place in the clan's society. The only dragon she trusts in the lair is her guardian Howl. Her familiar is a Winter Wolf named Marley. Marley journeyed to Freshpeachez' lair in search of the legendary baby dragon his pack spoke of so often. He never expected that he would be more at home within a clan of dragon than a pack of his own species. Redemption feels the same way about being in a group of her own species, but she known she would not be welcome to live with her old friends. For now, she spends her days learning the ways and history of the Beastclans surrounding the Shifting Expanse. |
