Ishtar (Akkadian) - or Inanna (Sumerian) - was the most prominent female deity in ancient Mesopotamia, titled Lady of Heaven and the goddess of Love (Fertility) and War. In the Babylonian pantheon she was also the divine personification of the planet Venus.
