First, There Was Darkness
In the Shrieking Wilds, the land is covered in perpetual darkness. The thick vegetation shields the ground from any sunlight, and the result is a dark, damp forest alive with scurrying, wary creatures.
Among the shady protection of the forest there was a wildclaw clan, both feared and admired for their ruthlessness and cold efficiency. The dark members of the clan, despite their light eyes, could blend seamlessly in the dark underneath the canopy of trees, dashing unseen behind enemy lines and striking fear into the hearts of the Beastclans.
Wildclaws are notorious for their speed in land. Unlike most dragon breeds, their powerful legs were made to run, and with the proper training they can outrun most creatures to inhabit Sornieth. Among the Shrieking Wilds clan, one particular dragon, Asane, was known as the fastest tracker, scout and patroller. His bloodline was very valued among the clans, and his offspring – Xavven and Corvus – were trained to follow his footsteps.
Into the Light
Raised as a patroller for his clan, and set to soon replace his father, Xavven exceled at his trade, but knew little of the world outside the dark forest of his home. His tasks came easily to him, and left him with plenty of time to wander by himself along his route, and to wonder about what lay beyond his perimeter.
Left alone with his thoughts, his creative nature soon got the best of him, and his patrols started straying more and more from his route. Seeing far and running farther was no problem to the young wildclaw, and his light eyes, while hard to mask in the gloom of the forest, were sensitive to the light changes beneath the shade, and let him see better than many a creature of the night.
And then came a night when he spotted a blur above, and watched in awe as a pack of dragons unlike any he had seen streaked by in the night. One in particular caught his eye, a petite skydancer – though he did not know then what her breed was called – leading the pack and seeming to glow as if aflame.
He knew then that he could not stay any longer, and that the fate that had been written for him was not enough anymore. At once Xavven set after the fleeing pack, now but a speak in the distance. For many months he tracked them, gathering knowledge along the way and writing all that he had seen and learned, thinking that maybe if he returned – if his clan accepted him back – he could teach others about the ways of other clans.
One fateful morning as he once again renewed his search he stumbled upon a clearing, and as he inspected his surroundings he found himself surrounded by a pack of fierce dragons, led by a certain skydancer with flaming wings and a personality just as fiery.
For now, Xavven is content to stick around the clan. He found a place for himself as the librarian, and spends most of his nights awake and reading about lands too far away for him to have seen… yet.
