Xihe the oracle they/them |
Sarahi used to sit with me, and she'd talk about fond memories of when I was a child; when I used to laugh and play with my sister Alana. How I used to be fascinated with birds and come home excited when one landed on my wing. I don't remember any of it. Maybe all of the time spent in a dark cell, four walls and no windows, maybe it replaced all the good memories. I haven't seen a bird in a long time. Sarahi tells me they look like tiny dragons with beaks and no arms. I think I've seen a skeleton of one back in the cell. |
As a hatchling, Xihe was generally avoided by the clan because of their eyes; no one had seen anyone like them. Sarahi didn't care about such a trivial thing and took the hatchling as her own. It wasn't until Morningstar took over that Xihe was once again mocked. Their dark eyes and the deformed hand they developed had the King accusing them of being a demon and locking them away, deep under the golden palace. Xihe had been in solitude for months until the King discovered they could tell of future events, and they became the palace's oracle slave. They remained imprisoned until a curious Surya discovered them and gathered a small rescue force. Sarahi was furious when she stormed the palace for her lost child. Her influence among the clan as the Knight Queen scared Morningstar into releasing the oracle, promising to never touch them again. After Sarahi and Romeo's death, Xihe was left to find their way in an unforgiving world. Many close friends tried to help, but Xihe felt uncomfortable with anyone but her Queen. They mopped about for weeks in the lair, once so full of life but now incredibly empty. As the days passed by, the lair became darker and more clouded, until Xihe couldn't even see where they were going. They stumbled out of the cave, into the warm welcoming air of the Ruins. Feeling the sun shining upon their feathers, Xihe made an important realization: they couldn't see a single thing.
