Oakes

(this is old and needs some rework)

Oakes was lucky. All of her brothers and sisters had been sent to the dragon gods, but not her. She thought maybe it was because of her markings. Her wings were a dull color and her legs and neck had these bright, light purple stripes. You almost would have never guessed she was her parents child because her father was dark as the night and her mother was as blue as the ocean. She hated how she looked as often covered up her legs and neck with bandages. There's only two dragons that she trusts enough to not wear her wraps around, Midnight and Neptune. Midnight had taken her in when she had no where to go and did not want to go serve the gods. It still took a while before Oakes trusted her fully but once it was made clear that she was not going to be banished she relaxed and let herself open up to Midnight. She often helps with hunting as she can chase down any prey that can fly. She did not open up to Neptune as easy at first. She was shy and he was quiet so there was not much talking from either side. Oddly though she felt comfortable near him. It might have been the fact he was the other other Skydancer in the clan. She finally spoke how she felt about their mute friendship and he told her that he felt alike. They soon began to spend more and more time with each other until one day Neptune asked Oakes to be his mate. She was frightened at the idea and flew away before giving an answer to him. He followed and when she thought she had lost him, she landed and began to weep. She always thought of herself as a reject, that no dragon would ever want to be with her because of how she looked. Neptune landed softly nearby and gently laid his tail across her. She looked up in surprise to find him sitting quietly next to her. He spoke very softly. "I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. I didn't mean to. I do love you but I understand if you don't love me back. No one would love a basic colored dragon like me." He turned to fly away but Oakes spoke up. "No, no don't leave. I just thought... I just thought that you wouldn't love an ugly dragon like me. I mean my wings are dull and the only bright colors to me are these god-awful stripes on my legs and neck. I never would imagine anyone would ask me to be their mate with markings like mine." He sat next to her again and wrapped his tail around her and nuzzled her gently, speaking softly. "I think you are beautiful and I would be honored if you chose to be my mate." She quietly curled up against him and relaxed. They slept away from the clan that night and when she came back he was by her side. They have been by each other sides every day since.
