PERSONALITY

Huge, strong and stubborn, many dragons are surprised at how soft-spoken Vesuvia generally is. While well-regarded for her strength, drive and job defending the clan, she's consistently quiet and considerate when dealing with dragons outside of the guards to the point of surprising many dragons who otherwise find her quite intimidating. At this point, Vesuvia is no longer surprised by the fact, and endeavours to be as gentle and approachable as she can.

ABOUT

Born to Alectrona and one of her early partners, before she finally settled with Helios, Vesuvia is the last remaining of that clutch and of those prior partners, who all left to exaltation instead. Consequently, Vesuvia is one of the older members in the clan, having been a part of it since almost it's inception, which perhaps explains her binding loyalty and deep, purposeful drive to protect it.

It has been remarked from as early as Vesuvia's hatching, how well her colouration suits her to the Ashfall Wastes, her very name being a reference to a volcano known for the volcanic, ashy clouds she so resembles, dark rock and smoke and ash, and the bright cut of fire and lava through it. Despite this, her drive has been to learn about Ice rather than about Fire - but she does suit her namesake and the lands of her birth, and for all she left to learn of Ice, she sought to bring that knowledge home as well.

For all her vast size, Vesuvia is, when not defending the clan, a decidedly gentle dragon - and despite her love of the cold and Ice, she has a deep interest in creatures with a preference for far more warmth, such as her cornsnake Stamukha and and her skink (albeit an icily infused variety) Frazil. She is also accompanied most places by her familiar, the pocketmouse Rime, which many would consider a great risk - but where Vesuvia is gentle outside of work, Rime is firm and stubborn and has long since gained the respect of Vesuvia's other two animal companions.

It is generally Rime who helps to carry missives between Vesuvia and her colleagues, his fur and magic better suiting him for running through the the climate of the icy outpost which Vesuvia most commonly calls home. Created by the focussed magics of multiple members of the clan, the Icicle Observatory is at once the Dayguards centre of operations, Vesuvia's usual home, and the watchtower from which the guards keep watch of the clan's borders.

Perhaps surprisingly to some, when Vesuvia, Stamukha and Frazil are sleeping, Rime is known to sneak away in order to keep Sentinel - the watchdragon of the Shadowguard - company, as the dragon often takes his post at the very peak of the observatory's tower.

When not working to keep the clan safe, Vesuvia is a notorious borrower of books, most notably about the Icewarden, Southern Icefield and arts of Ice magic, as well as herpetology and various related topics. Vesuvia adores her companions, and while she knows that Rime can fend for herself, Frazil entered her care due to an injury which leaves him unable to be rereleased, and Stamukha is... unusual to say the least.

A cornsnake immune to the cold is about as unusual as a Fireborn dragon which seeks Ice, after all.

Everyone relies on someone and there's none Vesuvia relies more on that Khione. Her companion in starting the Dayguard, Khione does what Vesuvia cannot, organising the guard, relaying messages, and tracking patrols.

Vesuvia's counterpart and head of the Shadowguard, it is to Stagnum that Vesuvia gives a report to ensure the clan is guarded well at night. The two rarely socialise together but have a deep mutual respect for one another.

Vesuvia was born to the clan but Tethys is the reason why, even when she left the clan for the Southern Icefield to learn of the magic of Ice, she still knew she was going to return home. Vesuvia grew up with Tethys as a familiar face and considers her a close friend.

All the clan's branches have someone in the Administrative Branch they report to, one way or another, and Vesuvia collates all reports and passes them to Ellipsis, her close friend and Logistical head of the Guard. Together they ensure the Guards have the resources they need.
