Who is Mocha?
When anyone in the clan is asked about Mocha, they typically know him for one of three things: his icy stoicism, his ferocity in battle, or his deep, haunting voice on the rare occasions that he speaks.
Although every Obelisk serves as sentry when the Night Parade’s caravan is at rest, no one takes the task as seriously as Mocha. When not pulling a carriage he is almost always found lurking near one, still as stone, glancing with skepticism at anything that moves within his view. Despite the attempts of many mischievous hatchlings and ill-behaved familiars, very little will get him to budge or react more than a disgruntled huff of freezing air. Not a fan of company, the most others get out of him in terms of conversation are acknowledging grumbles, one-word answers, or gruff requests to be left alone.

Even his patience and calm has a breaking point, however, and when the dam breaks, the flood of fury and aggression that spills forth can be overwhelming to those who have never experienced it. When truly angered or faced with a threat to the clan, Mocha is a violent machine, lashing out in what seems to be a frustrated tantrum but carried out with the same tense silence as when he sits sentry.

Few things seem to bring Mocha any visible sense of enjoyment or happiness, although he claims to love nothing more than being outside and watching the landscape for hours on end. He has a soft spot for the clan’s familiars though, and can often be seen sharing his meals with them and serving as a resting spot for them while he sleeps. He also maintains an eagerness to spar with the other guards, not only to keep his skills sharp in the event of a real threat, but also to counteract his otherwise sedentary lifestyle.

Place in the Parade
Mocha is one of the clan’s leading sentries, often operating from late afternoon to the early hours of the morning. When migrating, he carries Adviser Fester’s carriage of alchemical goods and supplies, a task that requires a steady flight and steadier claws. During wartime or other major conflicts, Mocha is on the vanguard, charging into battle right behind the Grand Marshall and her mate. Often, he is alongside Chalce and Heliotrope, whose skillsets allow him to let loose without worrying about his allies.

Paranormal Activity
Mocha’s magic is primarily physical in nature. Although he can exhale a cold, intimidating-looking fog, it does little more than send a chill down one’s spine in both a literal and metaphorical sense. The real danger comes from his big Obelisk foreclaws, which he can coat in thick layers of glacial ice to punch with or slam into the ground to create a shrapnel explosion of icy shards. His deep, resonant roar can keep the minds of his allies clear and sharp, and often serves as a rallying cry to maintain morale.

Maple is Mocha’s Floracat, and is the only creature that Mocha seems to show affection toward. He is never seen eating, sleeping, or anything that could be considered relaxing without her nearby, and will never settle in for sleep until she returns from her nighttime jaunts. Playful and curious, she idles away much of her time while Mocha is on duty by eavesdropping from windowsills, pestering hatchlings for attention, and bringing her master presents of colorful junk and dead critters.
