Wizard/Magician of the Icewing clan
"I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.
-Edgar Allen Poe Starbeam, also known as "Starbeam the Eccentric", is an odd dragon that serves as the wizard for the clan. He is excellent at using magic, but his behavior is rather strange; he thinks every Friday is "Grouse Basilisk Friday" and that songs should only be sung in major keys, lest they curse the entire clan. This causes him to feud many times with Requiem, whose depressing songs are usually in minor. Starbeam's quirky behavior is often attributed to being dropped on the head when he was younger, but those that knew him since birth say that his atypical behavior began much, much later. Following the traditions of his specific sect of wizardry, Starbeam has taken a vow of abstinence. He refrains from having romantic relations with any other dragon; some of the more romantically promiscuous dragons ask him how he manages to not develop a single crush. Starbeam often responds that it isn't as hard as it looks. As of yet he has pledged his loyalty to none but the moon, irritating Concerte. Starbeam often leaves in the middle of the night, either to howl at the moon or to collect magical artifacts and materials. This is often announced to the clan through an incredibly loud voice-projecting spell, much to the annoyance of everyone. Though Starbeam may be strange, he is very good at what he does. Any dragons that find themselves cursed or stalked by a magical being can ensure that the offending entity will be safely removed. For this reason, Acacia has sought Starbeam's help in destroying the vicious spirit possessing Thorn. However, Starbeam says he will only help on full moons, and insists that the ritual can only be performed while he is wearing three hats, spinning on a rock, and singing a century-old folk song backwards. Also Thorn has to be freed and not held captive. Obviously, this has caused great frustration to Acacia, who knows that Thorn's spirit could potentially destroy the whole clan if released from its imprisonment. Plus, where is she going to find three hats? Starbeam tends to be very mysterious. Sometimes it's for a goofy reason, but on occasion he genuinely seems serious. The most prominent of these incidents was when he threatened to legitimately kill Cryz over a dispute on whether science or magic was more useful. Some say that Starbeam is secretly concealing a great evil; that the eccentricity is nothing but a farce to conceal his true intentions. Starbeam vehemently denies this, and says he has the oranges to prove this. Thankfully, the general consensus is that Starbeam is legitimately an oddball and just likes messing around with others. But has anyone seen the strange, disturbing smile he conceals when he sees Thorn writhing in pain...?
