Ever since I have hatched, I am always thinking of the best way to fight, and of course defeat, everyone around me. I do no want to hurt them simply because they are there, but if they decide to hurt me, I want to be able to make sure that I survive. I cannot see anything wrong with that. My “skill” became useful pretty quickly. As soon as I was large enough not be trampled by the dragons around me, I was part of the hunting party for my clan. I helped to fell the largest game beasts we can find. Soon I was awarded for my skills in this area by being promoted to the clan guard, something I was extremely proud of. My parents were not. They said I could get hurt, and if I got hurt they would lose a chance to continue the family line. They had enough hatchlings; I do not see why they need me. I told them that I would not even be going out into the battlefield, I would be staying close to home. They still saw that as dangerous. As it became apparent that I was not going to quit my job for their benefit, things began to get uncomfortable. They stopped saving food for me. “Your precious guard can feed you.” They moved the nest without letting me know. “Can’t you live with someone in the guard?” They argued with me about every little thing that they could make into an argument. “If all of your guard friends agree with you, why don’t you stay them?” I could not stand living near them any longer. I tried to just move across the lair so I did not have to leave them entirely, but they spread vicious rumors about me no matter where I stayed. So I left. It is not like I do not love my parents. I just love my passion more. |
