Biography
Deities of Wor'entha
Zarele
At the beginning of creation the gods were displeased. Unlike them, the lives of the mortal races were fleeting and terminal. Once the body died the soul would pass into oblivion and an entirely new soul would have to be made to replace it, which was annoying and inefficient. The creators went to the Void Queen and pleaded assistance. As the goddess of oblivion, she had the power to reject the souls from her domain and force them to remain eternal. They asked her to make the mortals immortal in body and spirit, and the Queen was amused. She granted them their request, but as always, it was in the most unsatisfactory way possible. The lives of the mortals would never become eternal, but their bodies and souls would. To rule over this new domain of after-death, the Void Queen created two new gods: Hissine and Zarele.
Zarele is god of the undead and necromancy. Practically all of his followers are necromancers or liches, and there's a special place in the afterdeath for the particularly powerful among them. That would be Zarele's realm of blood and shadows. Only the most devoted, most powerful of his followers are allowed to serve under him as generals. The rest go to his sister's realm, whom he actively plots against day and night. The two take sibling rivalry to entirely new levels, and the other gods have learned to either pick a side and stick with it or abstain themselves from the whole conflict. Currently Zarele's allies include Enthrak, goddess of pestilence; and Momora, goddess of magic. The latter is by far the most powerful of the three, but still allows Zarele control over necrotic magic. It is rumored that the two are actually lovers, but the two of them deny it (with no small amount of disappointment from Zarele's side).
