Solaris was born in a nest of three. Loud and joyful she was the one who most noticed first before they noticed her other siblings. Happy and bright there was nothing that could put down her mood, most often seeking her out for her to shine a little light in their day. Unfortunately not all days are good days, an accident when she was young resulting in her speech crystal being broken robbed her of her ability to talk to others. This wasn't a problem to Solaris in the beginning. She fought tooth and nail to push back her sadness and let others know that her impediment didn't bother her, trying to find other ways to communicate. The others didn't share the same sentiment ousting her as a "strange one" due to her inability to talk. It wasn't long before the young girl found herself more alone than with company. Excuse after excuse piling up and rejecting her offers to spend a day or two together, until they stopped talking to her altogether and Solaris learned the meaning of loneliness. This continued as she grew older, finding herself watching others from the outside than ever actually getting to participate. Her siblings were kind and shared company with her in secret, too afraid to be ousted themselves if they hung out with her in public. Solaris did not bat an eye happy for the small reprieve even if it meant being labeled the "black sheep" of the family. One day out searching for food, she came across a lonesome Guardian named Checkers who was traveling the world. He didn't seem to mind her muteness, even letting her be the one to lead the conversation as he was a quiet person himself. Company with him was pleasant and Solaris found herself a new and real friend once more. Days continued on like this, the two spending their time gathering food and chattering about until Checkers told her one day that he'd have to leave soon and once more Solaris was faced with the possibility of being alone once more. Without a doubt in her mind, she asked if she could join him knowing full well that no one would miss her too terribly if she left. Checkers agreed without hesitation, just answering, "I guess that makes us family from now on." And with that Solaris left her old home to find a new one with her big brother. |
