"What's your name?" asked librarian, cheerful Spiral, dressed in probably the brightest sweater she could find. "Haven't decided yet" same answer as day before, and day before that, and all days before that day also. Librarian was from Light flight, she wanted to know, so she had to ask. She also understood that names are serious business and can not be treated lightly. You need to be sure. Skydancer returned, with all seven books, complete Harry Potter saga. She always borrows whole series, or at least all novels already released, for better reading experience probably. She's never said anything and the librarian's never asked. "What's your name?" "Hedwig" she smiled. And Spiral knew. And she also knew that Hedwig will never borrow those novels again. She'll buy her own copies. "Do you want to join us tonight? We are going to stargaze" "Thank you for invitation, but no" Hedwig smiled and left, with her book, of course. "She's always reading, that's not healthy." "That's suspicious. No one can read all the time, that's just a facade." "She's tricking us? Or maybe the whole point is what she's reading, some pattern… What's this time? Anyone?" "Reverdy's poems. I have no idea either." "Just… Let's go." |
They were right, of course. Hedwig doesn't read all the time. She reads in private and in public, the whole clan knows that. She barely speaks to anyone, everyone knows that too. Almost no one knows that she writes, but only when she's sure that she's completely alone. And she recites and sings, but only in the most remote places she can find. Hedwig realizes that any song or poem needs to be performed, needs to be spoken, sung, heard in order to be perfected. There is no other way to catch bad flow of words, absurdly long sentences, horrible punctuation… She wish there was. She doesn't want to be heard.
She was. In an abandoned cave near seashore. She'd just finished her newest poem only to realize that she had an audience. Hedwig was embarrassed. No one should listen, it hadn't been polished yet, still rough edges… Kuiper tried to reassure her, that they really liked it, really, they sweared. She believed them.
Three dragons, independently, told her that she has wonderful voice, fitting those lovely songs. They also wanted to know who wrote said songs. Hedwig quietly admitted that they are hers. Two believed her.
Now she's even more careful, not wanting to expose herself to any other dragon. She prefers to be alone, and wants to remain alone.
