From the time of his birth, Valefor has always loved stories. His egg hatched but a few short days after the Night of the Nocturne's end, so he awoke with very few other Nocturnes to interact with. Instead, he was raised by Medusa and Charon, the surrogate parents of the clan who found his egg. Valefor could never get enough of Medusa's bed time stories, and would alwas ask for more, and of course the indulgent Guardian was more than happy to provide, often bringing in other dragons who'd come from far away lands to tell their own tales to the growing hatchling. These were the ones that fascinated Valefor the most, hearing of the strange and exciting scenery and people from places he'd never seen, and he gained more and more wanderlust with each passing day, dreaming of leaving the lair to see these places he had heard of in stories. In due time, he started telling his own little tales, taking the most interesting or exciting parts of the ones he'd heard and putting them together in new ways to tell the other hatchlings. He became an easy favourite among the other dragons, entertaining the clan with his new tales. He put his capacity for mimicry to excellent use, giving each character and creature their own voice and became known for truly bringing his stories to life. Upon reaching adulthood, it was agreed that the best place for Valefor was among the clan's troubadours, and Capri and Snoweyes were more than happy to bring him along, letting him take part in their shows wherever they stopped and sometimes providing music to go along with his tales. They hadn't travelled particularly far, only to one of the nearer clans of the Tangled Woods, and Valefor had already told his favourite tales to great enthusiasm, so he started asking the locals for their stories, interested in hearing what they had to say. It was here that he first heard tell of the lich Lilith. He was enthralled by the stories he heard of the good that she spread far and wide with the help of her Entourage, and on further stops in their travels, Valefor tried his hardest to learn all he could of them incorporating the tales of their best adventures into his storytelling performances. As he spread these tales, it was only a matter of time before one of those close to Lilith heard these tales and noticed his interest in their group. Scout just happened to be passing through during one of his performances, and brought news of the story telling dragon to the lich's attention. Unaware, Valefor continued along, spreading his stories and learning new tales as he went. He found that other dragons had a habit of toasting to his best stories, and the more they drank, the looser their lips became. He found that it was easy enough to learn a clan's best gossip this way, and began making a point of trying to find out as much as he could of the lairs he visited on his tours as a storyteller. This skill proved to be very helpful when he was finally approached by Callisto. The spy brought him into Lilith's fold, and was more than pleased to learn of Valefor's information gathering skills. Seeing these as invaluable, the bard became one of her informants, passing along any information he learns that might be of future interest to Lilith or the Spymaster. On his own, Valefor acts mostly as a sort of ambassador, spreading the good word of Lilith and her followers in his stories, always portraying them in the best light and garnering ever more interest in their activities. In return, he gathers information of interest and passes it back along through Callisto. |
