Bertholdt is a shy and retiring Guardian. He seems to view Reiner as his charge, and would likely defend the Imperial to the death if necessary. A passable hunter, he mostly keeps to himself and doesn't cause trouble.

He's also very close with Annie. It seems that Bertholdt, Reiner and Annie may have all known each other before coming to join the clan, though they've never said as much.
