Pumice: the only igneous rock that can float on water.

Pumice was a male of many words. He was highly educated and his knowledge exceeded many people's comprehension. He didn't, however, understand the basic nuances of body language and social interaction. When a Clan mate would approach him to make small talk, a simple question about the weather could launch him into an elaborate explanation of the atmospheric pressure brought about from rain, or how palpable he found negative electrons and how useful that was for avoiding lightning strikes. As such, he didn't realize how many Clan mates tried very hard to avoid him. He dabbled in everything from metallurgy to gardening to tinkering with and creating machines. Being Arcane in nature seemed to have made him a little flighty, as though he had too many thoughts at one time to narrow and properly focus on any one at once. He was always multi-tasking. He was also sought for his physical training regimes. He had it down to a science how to train two Dragons at once in the time it took twelve Dragons to train the same amount together. And so, for all his incoherent musings and constant chatter, he was an incredible asset to the Clan. |

Still, his Clan mates felt a bit sheepish whenever a new members joined and they gave a meet-and-greet. They would preface the introduction as much as they could. "Pumice is... very intelligent. It's hard to have a conversation with him sometimes, though." "Pumice knows pretty much everything about everything, just... don't... ask him about it." "Pumice is... a little intense.." the introducer offered unhelpfully as he led Marta around her new home. She wasn't certain what to make of the explanation until they arrived at Pumice's work shop to find him simultaneously crafting what appeared to be a broad sword while also fine-tuning the wires on a mechanism smaller than her hand. "Pumice, this is Marta, our newest member." "Yes, yes," he replied arbitrarily, not looking up from his two tasks. "The balance is very important to get correct..." and proceeded to launch into an explanation of the properties of metals. The introducer looked sheepishly at Marta in apology, but she barely batted an eye. "He is to say that when he start to work on this small clockwork golem, he not to realize the metal he use to create it would have an interesting effect when combine with the iron on the broad sword." |
