Infectious

Time was of the essence, it had not been long since the clans hunger had made them restless, and even less time since they began sacrificing the weakest and turning to cannibalism. If he was found trying to leave, he would be next.
He was scared, never truly be a son of plague, and now he could feel the heat of the clans gaze upon him as he rested, waiting... but he was cunning, and with a silver tongue to wriggle his way out of any situation. Oh how he regretted that now, if only he hadn't been a coward, just accepted his fate. But no... Now, because of him, his mate was dead. The only one he could trust, maybe he didn't really love her, but now he was alone, haunted by the look upon her face as the clan descended upon her, claws sharp and jaws snapping in anticipation of their long awaited meal, all because of him. He cursed himself.
But there was no time to mourn, they would not be satisfied with just one meagre meal for long. His own stomach pleaded with him as the scent of fresh meat filled the lair, but the thought of eating her caused his insides to turn. He was weak, tired, his mind weary.
He needed to leave, now.
